I thought it’d be entertaining and maybe even educational for some for me to post my 10 Commandments of Wet Shaving. The 10 Commandments of Wet Shaving 1. Thou shalt not go out in public with a 5 O’clock shadow. 2. Thou shalt ensure one performs proper prep before bringing blade to beard. 3. Thou shalt not use any pressure when shaving with a safety or straight razor. 4. Thou shalt honor thy age old traditions of wet shaving as was done by our fathers, grandfathers etc. 5. Thou shalt not stretch a blade’s life beyond its usage as one would do a cartridge razor. 6. Thou shalt avoid the latest multi blade cartridge razor and canned goop like the plague. 7. Thou shalt taketh thy time shaving and never try to achieve a clean shave in one pass. 8. Thou shalt learn thy grain map of thine own stubble so as to know what directions to shave when shaving with, across then finally against thy grain. 9. Thou shalt preach thy word of wet shaving to those who have not yet seen thy light. 10. Thou shalt always remember thy golden acronym, YMMV (your mileage may vary). What will work for one wet shaver will not work for another.
Blah... Thou shall learn technique above all else. Most of the stuff up there is just window dressing.
Agree 100% with 2,7,8 but have reservations for 3 - I do apply pressure when my skin calls for one and can take it without irritation. For me, the most important part of the preparation is wetting the face with a dozen of hot water splashes.
I'm pretty sure that I break all of those on a regular basis. I think the most important one is what Steve used to say.... It is your shave, enjoy it your way...
Nice, concise. Great two tablet format. I like Xring's addition, though I wish I were better at obeying it.
^^^ This is not accepted as canonical by the faithful. Old razors are an acceptable form of retirement investment.
