  1. Good question, James. It's definitely easier than honing.

  2. It's straight-up distilled sandalwood cologne from the tree. It doesn't get any more sandalwood than this juice.

  4. Large format film captures more data than pedestrian 110, 126, or 35mm. How does it compare to today's modern Mega Pixel cameras? I recall the term "grain" being used.

  5. Had a busy morning here and it's not over yet.
6:00 Alarm clock, hit the snooze.
6:05 Alarm clock, again. Got up.
6:30 Daughter & Melody up and moving, Jenisis & Jeremiah still hiding under covers.
6:35 Everyone up and getting ready for their day.
7:40 Out the door, dropped twins M & J at school and Sarah at work. Went to the Dentist office with Jeremiah and waited for his appointment time.
8:50 Called into cubical for dental procedures. Color pages and crayons provided for the wait. No WIFI for me.
9:25 Four coloring pages later the Dentist joins us for the 9:00 appointment.
9:30 Jeremiah refuses to open his mouth. Upped the "brave air" nitrous oxide.
9:35 Jeremiah still refuses to open his mouth.
9:50 Jeremiah handed over to the custody of the Public School for the rest of his day time.
10:05 At Sarah's office so she can drop me to the house while she goes to her Dr's appointment.

What did I get done today? Drank some coffee... that's about it. Got several YouTube videos, a couple Amazon, and an Areopress tab open, and 160+ post to catch up reading.

  6. Stunning, brother!

I had an aristocrat replatrd in gold by Nick at sport shaving, and I’m extremely pleased with it. Your aristocrat looks great to me as it is, but if you are insistent on replating it, I would definitely go gold. As for the other razor, nickel will be cheaper than gold. Rhodium will be more expensive than gold. Rhodium will be brighter and shinier than nickel. Either will look great.

Totally agree Jim. Vintage razors are cheap and plentiful. Unless it was George Washington’s razor that he shaved with before crossing the Delaware, it’s not historical.

  7. Check! Charlie's videos look interesting. Lots of activity when using the machine. I was thinking of getting an electronic scale to measure my MWF usage. It seems to be an important part of regulating components in The Perfect Reproducible cup of coffee.
I tend to shave every other day so I may do the occasional STTS, but MWF on MWF works as a theme!
Alright my Canadian Brother from another mother! Being a lightly scented soap we'll have post shave options wide open.
Thanks Gary! No menthol was used in the making of that shave, but the S.R. does give a macho coolness finish.
Great Joh! I saw The Haul photo, glad you are supplied. Curious to see how it acts in your shave den. The soft water ought to help.
Maganlite pans were one of those heirloom kitchen items. I've passed on them.
I can see that Charlie. I think my grand daughters would enjoy the experience.
Coffee & Science together Bill? I've enjoyed Alton Brown's cooking show so this is good stuff!
Good move Charlie. Plenty of info, selected & tested gear, and a Shave Mentor to answer questions. We just might see him here shortly.

  8. You enablers are unbelievable! I actually put some coffee making gizmos in my cart at Amazon before I realized “what am I doing?“. I’m sticking with my Krureg machine with Starbucks French Roast pods in it. Maybe when I retire like @wristwatchb I’ll have enough time on my hands to get really particular and focus on such shenanigans. Of course, like him, I’ll probably prefer the free coffee anyway.

  10. My friend Wade has already enabled me enough on coffee. I buy the whole bean and grind it fresh each day. I even make my own K cups. I do keep some very nice Blue Mountain or Kona roasted whole beans for weekends etc. Wade has moved on to buying the green coffee beans and roasting his own. I refuse to go that far.

  13. I may stay with preground, too. If I get any kind of grinder, then I'll be tempted to start roasting my own. Next thing you know there'll be a personal relationship with some guy named Juan Valdez.
Jon, this thread is certifiably un-highjackable. Last month we blew up the blooming conversation. Next month MWF/Kent will be a hot topic with many OC razors making the scene. If you want to do an experiment, drop a photo of something off subject. Chatter will happen, but within 10 posts someone will bring us back to shaving.
  14. Ok, I posted a picture of what I was 3 to 4 years ago at 60-61 years of age a couple of days ago. Here is what I look like today after hitting the gym for 3 years at age 64 and 3 months. 20190927_135738.jpg 20190927_135738.jpg

  16. Thank you Jim! It was a lot of work! I still would like to be in the 160's but I am happy with my progress being in the low to mid 170's at 5 feet 7 inches.
  17. I was at 240lbs January of 2017. That's when I decided to change my ways. Currently fluctuating high 160's, low 170's. Been holding in that range for quite some time now. Oh, I'm 5'8".
  18. Resilience.

Something which we are not teaching the next generation.

    At our peril imho.

  19. Once you dial-in volume and a given range setting are perfectly acceptable methods for a skilled craftsman to use.

My brother in-law was a journeyman machinist before computer controlled milling machines. He could tell if you needed to 'cut another thou off' without even pulling out his caliper.
