Welcome to OCtober!! I see my entrance at page 18 indicates another busy month is already underway. That's why I'm a proud Czar. You guys never let me down.
I don't have a group shot yet of my gear for the month and I may never get one taken. I'm eager to use my OC's and get going with the FAT on MWF and I knew which razor I wanted to start with. With the OC's in my den the start of the show has to be Matthew the "haunted razor". He's come a long way since I rescued him off of eBay on a dare from
@Drygulch . Here's a shot of him the first day he arrived.
Honestly, that picture does him too much justice at that point. Very little plating left on top, plate damage on bottom, handle was also showing damage. Just looked horrible and still had an old Marlin blade in him which dated his last shave to around 1953. The owner had died, apparently in some way connected with combat, and the razor had never been used again. The owner's name, by the way, was Matthew, and it is his spirit that inhabits the razor. (Treat it like Ripley's....believe it or not).
Anyway, after cleaning him up the best I could and trying a few shaves I also discovered it's the Deluxe model of the New SC which is a bit rarer than the regular New models, so that was a plus. I decided he deserved some TLC from Chris over at Razorplate.com and sent him off to have his gold restored. Man what a difference. Now, my favorite of the New's in the den. One of my top razors, no doubt about it.
If I'm going to use Matthew he's getting a top blade. Nothing but the finest. Sharp Star it is. And since Mitchell's is the star of the show Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I decided that the rest of the days will feature mutton tallow from Stirling. I'll start tonight with the Electric Sheep and use that classic JR54 to create the lather. That citronella and eucalyptus kick actually feels pretty good when I'm inhaling it on my throat. Got the bronchitis on the run - just not totally out the door yet. Nice to have a soap support the cure.
If there's one this this razor is it's smooth. And effective. It's a bit more aggressive than the LC, in my opinion, and a great feeling shave. Three passes brought the baby with total ease on the ultra comfy mutton tallow lather and there was no blood, nor worries, no alum burn at all. Just a fine, fine way to start out OCtober!! Now - to go back and get reading to see what you all found to start with! Keep it coming!
