Well said! I hope so. Argo Steel... do we know if that was the makeup for all Engels or just a few models?
BTW I was thinking about bidding on that 8/8 Engels. But I have a hard time using the Engels I already own .I am glad it went to a home that will use it and understand its workmanship and quality .Have a great weekend !
The larger Engels are rare birds .You do not see them very often .5/8 are the most common .8/8 you almost never see them .
Thanks Mike & Scott. I saw it go through a couple bidding rounds and didn’t see it dropping any further... figured what the heck. Glad I did.
My Engels Solingen Special 5/8th Arrived Today from the USA...NOS & Mint Factory Fresh..Now to get it on the Hones...Looks as if it was Made Just this Morning.. Billy..
Scott...This is My 3rd Factory Fresh Engels SR in the Last Few Months...All Different Models..Engels TRADE, Engels LEADER, & this One is an Engels SPECIAL.. Billy..
Thanks. Now to once I get working I have to get a spindle of that and get someone to make me a brush with it. You should get a brush with the same wood and have a brush and razor that matches.
Billy You remind me of a James Bond Villain who is try to corner the market on a rare commodity.Just kidding .That is a lovely blade and I understand why you like F.W.Engels so much .I have the same problem . I am addicted to Argo Steel .
Brand new to straights and picked a Wostenholm up the other day to restore (in another thread). Then I realized that really I need it professionally honed so that when I learn to hone and strop I have a point of comparison. This means I "need" more razors! Woohoo more reasons for my RAD! Off to the flea market I go whilst trying to remember what little I know about frowns, smiles, hone wear, chips, brands, and on and on.... Out of what I saw, I think these were the best. 1. Boker King Cutter. May have a bit of a smile and too much hone wear toward the toe? No idea, but trying. 2. DILLE from Solingen. Not much online info on this one. The location is renowned though. Mostly got it for practice and the scales. I see some hone wear or at least a strong bevel...hard for me to know the difference so far. Both have etchings which will cause me issues and the DILLE logo is in gold so that will be a challenge. Not sure on what a good price is but 15 for the Boker and 20 for the DILLE. Any thoughts on these as practice restoration blades is welcome.
Beautiful pickups @mvd. I think you did great! Full hollows are excellent blades to learn honing on, and that Boker will be a treat. Maybe a slight frown on the Dille, but that can be rectified or honed with some different strokes. To keep the gold wash, maybe just try a Q-tip with alcohol. Any polish and you will lose it, and I personally love how it looks. Excellent finds! Tom
