  1. I broke the two rocks that I grind my coffee beans with this morning, now I need to get 2 more dug up before tomorrow morning.
Seeing how I've had my last cup today, guess I'll have to get going and shave.

  2. Update-still no word from the owner(s)of the house I was raised in. But they know how to contact me if they decide to let me visit.

  6. Go home Shrek, you're drunk!

    Razor: Shrek OC
    Blade: Gillette Super Silver (#3)
    Brush: Vulfix #28*
    Soap: MWF

Time for Shrek to go home. There is life still in the blade but the razor is bad tempered and really needs a light hand and a wide angle. At some point i will go back to the shed with it as i suspect it may have misaligned teeth. In the meantime i've sent him packing!

Everything else has been a pure joy. Enjoy your shaves and your day people! :)

*I have been using the wrong name for this brush. It is actually a Vulfix No.28

  7. Nice shave, Jim! So, Pineapple Bay Rum smells like Juicy Fruit gum. Mmm! Nice try, but I am not buying it! Lol! Seriously, it seems like a nice scent, but I have enough soap to last me for years.

  8. Semi-long, unimportant post.

Crazy night yesterday at our band contest in respect to the weather. It was a hot, hot day again with temperatures in the upper 90s. Forecast called for a 40% chance of showers or thunderstorms. We arrived and the kids ate from the concession stand as planned, then went back to the buses and got dressed. The next step is to go to the warm-up area about 40 minutes before performance time. We get out to warm-up and a contest official runs up and says we're under lightning delay and everyone has to get back on the bus. So we go back to the bus.

An hour later the delay is over. We stayed on the bus for about 20 minutes and then moved inside an air-conditioned building because the bus was stifling (no air conditioning on our school buses). We warm up again and then they start to rush us down to the performance to try and beat some impending rain on the radar.

Here's the funny thing. Our show title is "100% Chance of Rain" and includes the tunes Africa by Toto, Umbrella by Rihanna, Set Fire to the Rain by Adele, Singing in the Rain, and Over the Rainbow. All of the tunes have a rain component. So we were coming out to march on for the performance and the stadium announcer said our show title, and the whole place erupted in laughter. It was awesome.

Anyway, we did the show, but it felt sort of rushed and hectic, and then we got off just in time to get ponchos. The band after us cut their show short because of the rain and the next band didn't even perform. Lots of rain all over the state. Several of my colleagues in other locations didn't perform. They drove to the site and a couple of bands didn't even get off their buses due to the rain and lightning.

Pretty wild night all around. One of the contest officials is a good friend of mine and I complimented him on making tough decisions about the weather and what they needed to do for everyone's safety.

No shave today. We are planning to go out to our friend's house on Lay Lake for one last day of swimming before the water gets too cold. Some cold adult beverages may or may not be involved.

  10. I enjoy debate myself. Its good to throw your ideas, prejudices and whims out into the open to be tried and tested. Open debate is something the modern culture of the permanently insulted and outraged are losing interest in.

But, politics is banned on the forum so lets stick to shaving (and coffee!)
  11. Yes Paul
Normally, but when the day gets real long, I'll have some that morning too.

Look guys, I have a real issue here.
Those grinding rocks were not pretty, nor were they expensive, but they did smash coffee beans like no othe rocks I've had.
    Now they're broken :(
    Guess I'll have a shave.
    ;)

  16. Great report, Perry! I like Toto's "Africa". Was "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" discussed as a possibility? Getting dressed in uniform, on the bus, eh? Not much "wiggle room" I'd say.

  20. Thursday OCtober 3

Hitting 3rd, another 113 year old, 1906 Gillette single ring model 100.

    Bowl/Scuttle - GP12
Soap - Caties Bubbles Purple Grapefruit
    Brush - Rubberset Albright #3
Blade - Feather HI SS (5)
Razor - 1906 Gillette Single Ring
Post Shave - OSMA Pierre alum, Baum.BE A/S balm

    Shave rating 5 of 5

So I'm finding that each of these vintage century old razors have a personality of their own. My first shave this OCtober was with a similar aged single ring and that was a very mild, smooth shave with no blade feel. This razor was a bit more aggressive, a good bit of blade feel, but no less effective. I was in a bit of a rush so I only did a one pass shave and this razor gave me a DFS+ on that one WTG pass. This soap is really good, I could have done 5 passes with the lather generated by about a pea sized portion of the soap. The brush is one of my older brushes, and still has original boar knot (I believe) which is still in good shape. Brush was a little floppier than I like but still did the job well.

I apologize for my delay in posting this Thursday shave. Got busy Thursday and then had surgery on my left hand Friday morning and won't be shaving for a couple days while the hand heals and I can start using it again.

Happy OCtober and great shaves everyone.
