Another 2 razor shave today. 3 Pass DFS. MWF,
@jtspartan 30DC handle w/boar....just perfect for face lathering. Loads of water, loads of soap, slick goodness. First pass was the OneBlade, right side, second use on the Feather FHS blade, a WTG pass. Not as much reduction as I'd like on the first pass, even now with this being the a handful of times I've used the OneBlade setup (Core/Hybrid). The head of the OneBlade does have a pivot, and several reviewers and users of the razor say pressure is needed at the back head plate (which invokes the pivot) to get the optimum shaving result, I'm still working on that. The left side first pass with the O.R.E.N....first thing that comes to mind is how much area it covers, and there's so little blade feel. Growth reduction was very nice, CCS easily. Swapping sides, the O.R.E.N. on the right side...mowed everything left by the OneBlade to a DFS. Only needed about 10 strokes to cover the cheek and neck, as this blade is so wide. It does require attention as you move though, as face contours change. Using the OneBlade on the right side...seemed a little overkill, as the O.R.E.N. had it quite smooth. I decided to work the pass on the neck/jawline, and was able to get that area a bit closer like usual. Third pass was completely with the O.R.E.N, and used it for very light buffing on the neck...if you remember I shaved my neck/jawline a tad too much yesterday, so I was barely using any pressure, and only going for the DFS all over. Tried for a couple minutes to get the under nostril area....still working on that....again, ended up using a Kamisori to completely get it DFS.
At this point....really looking like the O.R.E.N and the Single Edge are the keepers in this trial. The OneBlade Hybrid...very nice design, but a couple of finishing niggles for me which shouldn't exist on a high $ razor (that are present on the Core and the Hybrid), plus the fact that it still requires some further technique learning to get to a DFS+ shave....a little disappointing, especially considering the other two razors I achieved a DFS+ on the first shave (and repeated). My goal is a travel razor which gets me DFS or better quickly and without a lot of brain attention on an early morning with minimal time and gear. Still will be testing/shaving with each of the 3 razors over the next week....have some of the Schick Proline B20 blades on the way (thanks
@Linuxguile). A couple notes...the O.R.E.N. is the easiest razor in the world (other than an open blade) to rinse....it's head design is awesome. Another point on the head/blade design, there is so little blade feel, it seems almost impossible to cut/nick yourself while shaving. This trait combination is odd though....as the razor will absolutely shave off too much if you give it misguided (too much) pressure.
Yesterday got really busy with work and family. 17-18 hours working.....too many posts to read/catch up on. Read everyone's comments/posts on my shave. Thank you for all the kind words! Family still working through services for my sister in law. Things got delayed to tomorrow and Friday (venue damaged & out of service). But, we were able to verify the casket wasn't damaged, so that's a huge relief.
Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!
