Nov 14 Good afternoon, guys! Straight Razor Shave #120 30 Consecutive Same Straight Razor and Setup Challenge (10) Wostenholm 5/8 Full Hollow Square Pt Stirling Boar Brush Stirling Sandalwood SS and AS Nivea ASB not pictured I have now finished with my 10th shave of this challenge. This razor mowed down my 31 hour stubble with 2 passes. Did very little touch up because I didn't want to get the baby. 2 weepers, no irritation and an IBSS+ was the final outcome. Finished the shave in my normal fashion. At this point, I didn't upload the pic because you guys are familiar with the photo and my setup. Have a good night men!
Fantastic shave Joe! At this ⅓ point are you noticing any degradation of the edge? Sent from my Galaxy using Tapatalk
My week has gone pretty well all things considered. Like you I am ready for the weekend. Oh I feel your pain. I just can't seem to help myself.
It's going to be just that......a loooooonnggg time...before I come CLOSE to "bottoming out" my soaps.
No, not really, Andrew. I am getting great shave with 2 to 2.5 passes. Also, I am getting a smooth upper lip without any pressure. These are my benchmarks for me to determine the razor's performance. Presently, I have 12 shaves on this blade since I lapping film honed the razor. I had 2 shaves prior to the challenge. The blade is still sharp. The average amount of shaves before a honing is needed is 40 to 60 shaves. I would say that my goal is to finish this challenge without refreshing the blade. If I do it, then I would know that my stropping is spot on and that my honing was good.
Thanks, Danny! The blade is holding up very well. I can stop at 2 passes and still get a great shave. There's no tugging and it is still sharp. It is to be expected with only 12 shaves. I had 2 shaves on the blade prior to my challenge. The average is 40-60 shaves before honing is needed. My goal is to finish my challenge without refreshing the blade with Crox.
NOVember 2019 November 14 Razor - Russian Consul Adjustable (9) Blade - Soap - Soap Commander Courage Brush - Jayaruh #230 Post - Alum Alrighty then. Didn't shave last night I'm not gonna skip another one. Got home a bit early anyway so a nice relaxing shave was in order. Time to pull out a Russian razor during No-Repeat November. Normally I'd pair a Russian with a Russian but I decided to go to India for the blade. The Super-Max Titanium. Is Titanium better than, oh, say, Platinum? Or PTFE? Or Stainless? Or whatever the combination Derby uses? I don't know, but it does do a fine job of providing a smooth blade. And the Super-Max blades are one of the sharper blades. Not the sharpest but definitely on the side of sharp. The Consul is a Slim clone and adjusts to 9 on the dial, though the gap is significantly greater with the Russian version. Great and easy shave with the correct angle and lack of pressure. I did three passes and am smoother than smooth. Great work by the razor and blade combo. On the soap/brush side I pulled out the Soap Commander Courage and used the JR230 to make more lather than I could possibly use. The brush is on the smaller side but doesn't lather like it. Love its compact feel and the amount of lather it can produce. Overall great shave and I'm a happy camper. Friday is just around the corner so make it a great one!
