    Thank you Terry.

I dont know much about straights Danny but I do know the Gold Dollar shaves as good or better than anyting I've used yet . A little more practice with it and I believe its going to be the gamechanger .

4K, 8K, 12K Norton, 16K Naniwa. I also have a JNAT I throw in to finish occasionally. Sometimes I get them sharp. Sometimes I get them wickedly sharp. Not sure why the difference, and I’m not sure that I necessarily prefer wicked sharp over sharp for the reasons mentioned above.

What strop and how many strokes are you using? Im doing 20 canvas and 40 on leather . No paste. Seems to be working fine on the Wagner after 2 uses.

Sounds about right to me. Adam @Drygulch explained to me that the cloth was just to remove any loose metal dust so it doesn’t end up on the leather part of your strop. I probably only do 10 laps on that and 30 or 40 on the leather. My strop is a very smooth Tony Miller, but I think a strop is a strop (pretty much). Mine is just pretty looking.

My canvas is old work pants with a D ring glued in and my leather belt does the rest . Aint fancy but seems to get the job done .

Busy is not always good but last week busy was good.

Good luck to your daughter in the competition.

Skin stretching is one of the keys to a good SR shave.

The DX is an excellent tool, it is similar to a street but you don’t have to strop it.

Are used to pop my pimples, now I just shave them off.

    :signs011:

I’ve tried a lot of different approaches to stroping. Here is what I have settled on, 6 to 10 laps on a Fe3Ox strop, 20 on old linen and 60+ on leather.

Razor - Soviet Ideal (Black Beauty Clone) (9)
    Blade - astra-superior-platinum.jpg
Soap - Blood on Steel 2019 (Stirling)
    Brush - 30DC Meet-up LE
    Post - Alum

Back to a Russian razor today. The Ideal, which is a clone of the Gillette Super Adjustable, otherwise known as the Black Beauty. Of course it's adjusted to 9 which gives it that extra amount of Russian gap. It's not quite the same level of engineering as the Consul but it works fine. I paired it with the Astra SP blade. This is the blade I use for head shaves with the Merkur 23c. It was also the first blade I ever bought in bulk. It's incredibly smooth and effective.

For soap and brush - the Blood on Steel from the meet-up this past summer and the meet up brush from @jtspartan . These two work perfectly together and the lather was outstanding. Nothing surprising since it's a Stirling product. Two passes, some touch up, then a third pass just because. Perfect finish and that's a wrap!! Enjoy your Sunday!!!
