I added more laps on stropping the razor on the fabric (30) and leather (50) and it made the shave much better that I only needed two passes without touchups to get an IBSS ++ without irritation or cuts, nicks and weeps. Needless to say, everything worked very well to rid my 40 hour stubble. The lather was thick, cushiony and slick to allow the blade to glide smoothly. Had no problem getting back on the focus-train this morning, indeed I was glad to be back aboard.
The 48 hours of down-time did nothing to hinder MWF's ability to get loaded (LOL) and lather.
Built a stupendous lather "on the puck", using Nathan's Shiny Lather method.
MWF will never get the sheen of B&M or Eufros or Stirling, but will maintain its integrity
and morph into a super-slick base and very protective.
Aside from straights, nothing needs more protection than my 2011 Mühle R41. Mos def.
Loaded said razor with a oft-used Wilkinson Chromium blade. The actual number of shaves on this blade
are unknown to me; certainly more than 15. Three passes and two minuscule weepers later,
I was left with an excellent shave, worthy of a night out with Dr. Mrs. Primo.
Side note: I noticed yesterday that received her first letter addressed with her new title.
One large splash of the Small Batch Shave Tonic completed the tonsorial ritual.

Broke from my blade trials in order to try out a crazy little tool that took so long to get here I had forgotten I ordered it.
A Ming Shi Unscrew 3000s. No that's not a type-O, with a name like that and only $11 including shipping to get it here, I just had to.
Seeing it's a DE razor, the maiden voyage has to go with a Feather blade, new blade of course!
Looking at it, a complicated contraption, it's adjustable, a butterfly TTO design.
The blade fits snug, fits well, no issues there. Now its adjustable in the way that the safety bar lowers or raises with the numbered ferrule, the blade is not moved. You can fully adjust it with the blade set, loaded and barn doors fully closed. Numbers 1-9 with 9 being the safety bar lowest of them or the widest setting. I set it to 9, that's always good for me.
The face shave was good, not great, but good. Its milder than I'd hoped for, but still did a fine job of cutting. Not a brush hog, but not a super speed either, maybe a Red Tip. But with almost no blade feel, it still did the job. Great caution using this razor, for over shaving to get a smooth shave is possible, even with a new Feather blade. 2 passes and a witch hazel clean up left me ok. An above average "go to work" shave.
The head shave had some issues, nothing terrible, but this razor makes it kinda clumsy. The main problem is that the handle is so light that all the parts on the head seriously unballances it. If you shave the gord, having a well ballanced razor is a real plus. I found that I was holdind onto the adjustment ferrule to get good ballance. Chocking up on a razor that much gets it ballanced, but makes it slightly uncontrolled when moving from top to side. It needs some weight in the handle to ease up on the higher hold.
2 passes and a witch hazel clean up, its again a good "go to work" shave.

Well that's all there is here on that Chinese blade holder.
If you like a milder razor that has a heavy head compared to the handle, 11 dollars might be worth it. I would say to think about it if you are a head shaver.

Hotel shave this morning. We are in Calgary for my daughter’s Highland Dance competition.

Happy Saturday everyone! I had a great Saturday morning 3 pass shave with no real need for cleanup. The XTG pass was the smoothest XTG pass I have ever done with a SR. I'm figuring out how to stretch the skin and clear the skin so I can stretch the next area.

Went with all Proraso because even with my samples I barely have enough soaps for no repeat SS.

Sandpiper is my favorite Stirling scent. That's of the ones I own, of course. I haven't tried all the offerings from Stirling and likely won't since there are so many, but this take on YSL La Nuit de L'Homme is very nice. I was inspired by @jtspartan to bring out the Schick 66 and it worked quite well.

I felt a head cold coming on and today it's much worse. Oh well. It'll run its course and be annoying for a couple of days. Two more shows of the Addams Family today and then that will be over. Never a dull moment!

Skipped my usual dose of Proraso pre-shave for a lather up and hot towel rinse. Either of which I find a pleasant addition to my shaves.

As per my custom, I like using a Stirling mutton tallow soap for new equipment test shaves. I just haven't seen anything that can top its lather. Sheep has no scent added, but that doesn't mean unscented. For those offended by the stank of a animal fat funk, steer clear. Matter of fact, Scots Pine Sheep will be the follow up for me. I might even go Electric Sheep, but never Port-au-Prince.

For the cereal and soup bowl crowd, skip over this piece at meal time, you won't like the nooks, crannies and bumps that make it perfect for soap whippers. If you are shopping, I saw some nice revisions available, like an upwards extension on the band to hold a brush, and an available lid (handy for stinky soaps). These things are custom made so you can get what you want, but don't expect Walmart pricing.

This bowl is uuuge..... So I had to have a new tall brush to accommodate it. Besides, I needed something to get my Artist Club blade purchase into free shipping.

The Blue Ming was here to oversee the production of suds..... Flawless at that.

Long before I picked up my first straight, I longingly looked at the Feather Artist Club DX tools and walked away empty handed because of the ferocious reputation for cuts or the 'sticker shock'. Then along came a guiding light showing the lower cost path. I wanted a folder for the advantage of a built-in blade guard. Alas it was mine.

With some selection of available blades I went to tryablade.com and ordered 2 of the 'Mongoose samplers'. They have one of everything except the 'Lights'. USPS is still in motion on my delivery a couple of weeks later. Hence the need for the 'order anyhow', which also secured me that cool brush. Sorry for my impatience.

The blade loads easily and falls right in place. I was expecting to see the edge protruding somewhat more. I thought I was opening the Super Professionals which have .2 mm greater exposure, but later noticed I used the Regular Professionals.

The DX is a pleasant and capable Shaver. So far, I don't see a great advantage over my DE shavettes. Because it is machined stainless, it does have a nice heft that is closer to a real straight. I like the file jimps on the bottom of the shank and the long tang. While sizing is similar to my other edge forward tools, the pivoting point makes it the most compact of all. The compact maneuverability helps me get to my most difficult area that I continue to work on, the upper neck sides just under the jaw.

The shave was very good with a quiet alum check. Finished up with my lifetime fav Brut which before wetshaving, was the ONLY name on the Max Headroom List of Most Glorious Stanks. Nowadays, there is competition, but deep down I know that you can never go wrong with Brut.

Lately, I’ve been putting aside a little time to enjoy some straight shaves in the morning. This morning I shaved with my Bismarck which I’ve been able to hone to an obscenely sharp edge. Sharper than any others I own. For those of you wondering, the difference between a sharp edge and an obscenely sharp edge is if you have any sort of pimple on your face, it will take it right off, and produce LOTS of blood. Theoretically speaking, of course.

Straight shave #1 with the Gold Dollar. I'm proud to say the only Blood on Steel was in the tub. 3 very gentle and careful passes as I was going for gradual reduction and feeling out this beast. A early shave with a mid afternoon post. The SOC Mistura loaded and lathered The City with ease. The mixed boar/badger knot is a joy to use face lathering. The scent of "The City"seems to be improving with each use. Off the puck the scent is very sweet with an gourmand quality. While face lathering the scent opened up picking up the sandalwood and accompanying notes. Three passes and touch ups with the 47 SS just missed the baby. My lower right neck proved to be my nemesis. A splash of Fine Santal Absolut left was the perfect end to the shave. I hope everyone had a great day.
