Jason: So Joe had a bad Cooper! I’ve got one coming, and respecting Joe’s expertise was a bit concerned. That’s a relief!
Wow. Just freaking wow. You've taken color coordination to the extreme. Congrats on such a gorgeous Red Tip.
Thanks Jason. Thank you Jim. I do love the bowl. My scheme to get it for Christmas worked, except I got it as a Birthday gift. Saw yours and I had to have it. Thank you Joseph. Thank you Blair. I hand load the Prolones to the Supply razor. Never saw the need for that tool but I went crossloaded style for the Schick razor. Thanks Clint. Not sure why my original expectations were high on the Feather blades, but I feel much better hearing everyone does not go as long as Clint. After hearing about the rust discovery, I went to check mine for rust. I spritz all my tools with some 91% isopropyl as a water dispersant. I may have to consider disassembly now. That good friend to TSD @PickledNorthern considered the Supply his 'nursing home razor', the only tool left towards the end. I can see why now.
I don't know what was going on with Joseph's Monobilt. I get great shaves from mine. Good amount of blade feel yet I have yet to get any irritation or draw blood with it. The Monobilt is the razor that started my interest in vintage razors.
Thanks, Jeff! I am surprised because it was my very first time honing any straight razor. I also wanted to test my stropping ability as well. I have been straight shaving for just over a year and it's difficult to judge my stropping ability when you rotate 13 straights. Using one straight razor for 30 consecutiveg shaves will give me any clues as to my stropping and honing performance. I was inspired by Eric Latta, who is the host of Adventures in Wet Shaving on YouTube. He did this same challenge, but he changed the software for each shave.
Thank you, Clint! I'll need to start digging through what I have left to see if I can keep the color coordinating up through the weekend and next week.
Nice image and setup Joseph! Your Monobilt example looked like the head/blade holder was a bit wonky... Originally I had a Monobilt on the DE want list, but that wish faded a few months ago. I do disassemble and dry after use now (weekends when traveling). But, to reiterate, it was the original blades from Supply Co (not the newly designed ones), and not the Schick Proline blades. The rust was very easily wiped off the Stainless Steel main razor head, and the smaller screw held clamp. It was the blade rusting. I used it on a Sunday morning, thought it was dry enough, put in a dopp bag, then visited the bag contents again maybe Tuesday/Wednesday. Immediately cleaned/oiled the Single Edge v2 components. My question about manual blade loading was another reason. More investigation required.....
