  6. Thanks, Gary! I’ll be interested in your perspective on some of my vintage Gillettes.
I just landed in Philly! It was pretty cool to be able to carry on with my TSD friends!
  7. Well, Keith @Keithmax posted his planned shave for tomorrow (today there yet? Maybe? I get so confused) so the month is off and running and will catch up to us here in North America in a little less than 12 hours. For once I'm settled on my gear and plan for the month. With Decadent December on tap I decided to choose my top 5 soaps, top 5 razors, use my top two DE blades, and use only badger brushes. Yes, I know boars and synthetics and horses can also be decadent - but badger is still considered the "A" brushes on most people's lists. Besides, I don't use them much as I am so hooked on synthetics. So.....here is the official list of gear for the month.

Razors - 1960 (F4) Gillette Toggle; 1946-47 Gillette Aristocrat; Gillette New SC Deluxe; Gem Micromatic Open Comb; Feather DX. I chose my three favorite DE's and added my favorite SE and pain stick.

Soaps - Mitchell's Wool Fat; Tabac; Stirling Ozark Mountain (normal formula); Stirling Port-Au-Prince (mutton tallow); Stirling Iced Pineapple (iced/menthol formula). I'll throw in a couple of shaves on some "special" soaps too.

Brushes - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip; I*10V Hybrid (yeah it's a mix of badger and boar but it counts); Rooney Silvertip; Stirling Finest Badger; 30DC Meet Up with a TGN Grade A Silvertip knot.

Blades - Voskhod and Sharp Star. Of course, a CVS carbon with the OCMM and Feather Pro with the DX.

  10. awesome set ups Neal..
  11. well almost 4 pages and not even december yet..i love this crew..last DEcember of the decade gents..should be a grand time..2020 will be the phrase of the day..
  12. Thanks Gary. I got a jump start on DECember by using the Stirling Blood on Steel this morning. First impression is that it seems a little slicker than Eufros and Mike's. Scent was great also. Very nice!
  13. i was playing around with my stirling sandpiper one morning and decided to see how far it could go..it loves water..got some of the slickest soap ever.it flew around everywhere when lathering but wow, fantastic soap..not a lot of others out there that can take the h2o like that and still work very well..
  14. Looks like a great plan for the month! I’ve always been such a tool guy that I neglect the software side of things. My soaps are generally one of the following three - MWF, Tabac, and Mike’s. I have soaps from CBD, Wholly Kaw, Stirling and others, but don’t tend to use them. I just like the way my face feels after using the first three. I’ve asked for Martin De Candre for Christmas, but who knows! I guess I’m just a creature of habit.
  15. Really don't have much decadent gear or software. I think I am going to sit this one out and just keep working through my soap.

    Enjoy December all.
  16. As I've said, even a Super Speed, Arko and a basic boar brush can be decadent if it delivers a great shave! Keep right on going through the soap and enjoy every shave! That's what it's all about.
  17. When I started nearly 5 years ago the only two soaps I had were Proraso green and VDH Deluxe. I then added MWF and Tabac and Arko and called it good. I was perfectly happy because I was also a hardware guy. Blades, different razors, all that. I was also a boar brush guy. I didn't get a real badger (I don't count the Tweezerman from Amazon) until I got lucky on the draw for Wolf Whiskers. The soap collection started when a certain guy named Charlie @wristwatchb sent a bunch of us a tub of Route 66 soap for Christmas. That then led to someone else sending me a tub of Soap Commander and a recommendation I "might want to check out Stirling". Then came Jeeves. So there you go. I'm trying to minimize on the soap end at this point so we'll see how that goes. As for brushes I broke from my boar addiction when I got my first @Jayaruh brush (#46) in a raffle and it had a synthetic knot. That led me to add three more JR brushes, all synthetic as well as winning the Canuck in a bet, and getting both of the 30DC LE brushes. As for the growing badger bunch - the Wolf started it, I added the Stirling finest because I heard it was better than any others in that class (which I agree), the big Rooney in the picture is from Lynn Abram's den when I met him, and the 30DC Meet Up is my second one - the first one has the SynBad - I bought the TGN Silvertip knot to go into a second one.

    Sheesh - I'm beginning to think I have a problem! :sad027:
