Yikes, 5 hours into December and already 100 posts. I’m in though not sure yet what my focus will be. I will say I will try to be a more active participant than I was at times in November. Unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way. - Ken
Paul...Paul...you shouldn't be listening to disco while you shave. This ain't Finland, and you ain't @MrDaniel's.
Just out of the gate, aftershave shaking has already overtaken soap blooming. I'm sure @BlueShaver and @wchnu will chime in with the correct procedure shortly.
Ok so I will be doing my first restart of SR shaving tomorrow. When using a straight should it feel the same as shaving with a shavette?
As promised, I’m kicking off decadent December w/ what’s turned out to be my favorite razor in my collection. My Jones Shake Sharp Model 1.0. Stacking the razor with two blades resulted in a smooth and effortless dome and face shave. Although the razor looks like a Gem style hoe design, it actually takes a DE blade. The razor was developed at the end of the carbon steel blade era and has a built-in hone which allowed the user to ‘shake sharpen’ his or her dulling carbon blade. In any case, this wonderful kickoff shave has left me smooth, clean and refreshed! Let’s hear it for decadent December! SOTD 12/01/19 RAZOR: Jones Shake Sharp Model 1.0 BLADE: 2 Stacked Suneko Blades PREP: Cold water rinse followed by face and dome scrub with PAA’s Charcoal-Menthol Cube Preshave Soap BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar SOAP: Stirling Glacial Obsidian POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash w/ brush squeezings followed by Stirling Glacial Obsidian AS Splash and finished with Pre De Provence AS Balm
Hey guys, ive had some fantastic shaves this week, two being with the fantastic fatip piccolo after a guy on one of the forums asked me to test the super max blades in the piccolo, and the worked fantastically. Here's my last shave for a few months with the Wilkinson sword before switching to the piccolo. Razor: Wilkinson sword tto Blade: super max blue diamond (7) Brush: Omega 49 Soap: arko shave stick Aftershave: brut by Fabergé
I think i'll go with these. Had to get a little bit of menthol, and i just picked two razors that work well for me.
Thanks, Jeff! I do enjoy using mentholated products, i might be slightly addicted to them. I'll have to get something stronger at some point.
Good to see you back. Jason. Are you still stationed in Japan? I started with straights then took up shavettes. I find them more time consuming and very dependent on the edge you have. One of the other guys who did the shavette training at the same time you did took up straights last month. He did so with a couple straights I used to learn honing. I'm not an expert, but thought I got pretty decent edges. Maybe he can comment, Patrick? @9nein9 Tell us what you will be using and what plan, if any you have. Be well. Bill
