  1. I forgot your actual location, but do now recall it being outside CUS. Sorry.

Menthol crystals are inexpensive as seen online. I've read a couple of accounts here on TSD of putting them in solutions yourself. Did not seem hard or risky but I thought some gentle heat was involved with limitations on the carrier medium.
  2. Great shave, Joe! Now if that were me with my shakes and a straight razor, my lip would be on the floor!
I really like it, Joe, but it’s definitely not for everyone! One guy over at B&B had a severe allergic reaction to it.

  3. It's really not that difficult to shave the moustache area with a straight. You just have to be careful because you get cut and irritation quite readily. I was doing a downward WTG swipe and landed incorrectly with the square point toe catching my skin. It gave me a nice, neat, clean cut.
  4. I wouldn't be heating alcohol. The menthol will dissolve by itself in the alcohol.
  5. Thanks, Terry! It was a minor one.

  7. I'm 62. Never shaved my upper lip.

Wore a trimmed and cropped beard most of my adult life. It kinda started looking like a Brillo Pad so I took it off shortly after I started wetshaving. When I finally shaved, I no longer had that handsome mug.

Now I'm afraid of what I might find under a mustache.

  8. Finland.

    Thanks, Jim!
I will have to experiment a bit to find out what works.
  9. Great shaves, Terry!

  10. I use Proraso Green so I am ok with menthol, but I am not a menthol freak. U just want to try Cryogen for the challenge and experience. Besides, I have sinusitis and I need my sinuses to be cleared once and for all.
  11. Stirling Glacial Wintergreen Witch Hazel is the only thing I've ever used that caused me to think "OMG, what have I done?" it subsided before too long.

I don't use it much because the scent reminds me of Bengay.

I did pump up some 'dollar store' Brut knock-off with a huge shot of M-Bomb solution. It is awesome in the summer if that cool shower after cutting the grass won't cut it. Splashed it all over my upper torso. Oooooo Yea.

  13. Trust me, your sinuses will thank you, then!
  14. Supposedly, that's quite cold indeed, but talk to Jeff(the man who is capable of using a Frostbyte A.S. on New Year's)....forgot his screenname for the time being.....I think he said the Stoylin Glacials are colder.
  15. I recently added a Feather DX to my stable. Many believe it to handle more closely to a real straight than most replaceable blade open edge tools. I find true straights to give a better 'blade feel' and audio feedback.

Being in Japan, I'd imagine you could have a lower cost basis than States side. I'd recommend looking at the wood scaled version. The 'kamisori' style has its fans too. There is the lower cost and different SS versions as well as knockoffs too.

For me, stropping settled best on:
Rolled the edge over the spine on direction reverses
    Taught strop, not tight.
Steady light and even pressure using care to not torque into the edge, let it follow.

    Have fun!

  17. Menthol crystals will also dissolve in very hot water as well. You will need to shake or stir each time you use the mixture.
  18. Good looking Feather DX.

  20. That was my reaction to Wintergreen....hardly a scent. I'm not sure I can clone you on the Bengay part, though.
