  1. all good sir.i consider nice vintage razors as an investment.cool to own and if you don't like them you will recoup your costs.there is always someone who will want to try one..especially if you buy them from friends.i have bought some and overpaid but they were must have, near mint,or rare enough to justify the purchase..i am pretty much done my razor collection with the odd exception and have no regrets.if i chose to grow a beard and never shave again i will have a tidy sum in the pocket.i have wasted more money on rented beer over the years..at least i have some cool ,functional history to show for it.now soaps,;),that's a beast i had to corral in short order..

  2. ;)

  3. Yes. It's really soft, pretty much like a cream. I do think that the combination works well, but i'm sure it is not for everyone.
  4. Excellent shaves, gents!

Very nice Tommy! Small world, I just passed the same QShave 'Merkur Futur' clone off to a wet shaving newbie with some Proraso White (sensitive skin) shave cream. He's off and loving it so far.

Wow, love that razor! Great shave, images and variety Jeff!

  11. Lots of Pine in it. I get Cedar as well. Fir, too. A big 'ol Boreal forest. A sample puck comes free with every Husqvarna ordered...
I can carve a chunk off and send it next time I mail you something, Gary.
  12. Pine soaps are great. Had to google that one, and it does sound really good.

Not shaving related, but this pine soap has been around since 1920. Most people probably wash their rugs with it and use it for cleaning, but it works decently even as a bath soap. :D

  13. Thanks Gary, I have enjoyed every moment here. The first razor was a Utopia three piece that was cheap and just something to give it a go with. The den has grown a little since then. ;) Take care!
  14. Thanks Clint

  16. Mighty fine shave, and pic, Joseph! Yes, it is amazing that your 100 yr old safety razor is still going. I know how you feel because some of my straights are that old and they still shave very well.
  17. Thanks Jim....been a fun ride!

  18. Sometime last month I was intrigued by a pain stick that was posted up around here and couldn't resist it. It's Chinese, looked in the picture like a knock off of the Kai Captain except it uses half-DE blades instead of AC blades. When I went to order it they also had a folding AC style razor available that was nearly as cheap. We're talking under $20 for both razors. I decided why not. They arrived in the mail on Saturday and I just got the chance to open them up. Here they are together, along with a comparison between the two pain sticks. The real Kai is a bit longer, bigger handle, and of course, bigger head to hold the AC blades. Clearly just a bit better overall, obviously. The folding razor included a nice fake leather pouch. Guess that's why it cost a couple bucks more. The quality on that one seems to be no worse than the CJB, but I won't have a clear picture until I use it. It should be fun to try both out, especially a pain stick with a DE blade. It was generous of them to include a tuck of Dorco blades with the pain stick. Not that I'm a huge fan but.....given that it's an el-cheapo Chinese razor they could have included some Chinese blades. The horror of that would have been unspeakable. :shocked003:
