Been away for a few days, I had a quick biz trip to Tokyo In Tokyo I used my Dovo Bismarck. Back home Saturday was with a PRC Chimera Sunday I went big with a chunky Osiris blade.
Time for some holiday-like fragrance, so the I Coloniali Mango Oil soap and Rhubarb AS accompanied a Henckles Friodur 14. I am BDBS and smelling like Christmas!
Sticking with Thiers Issard this evening... the LE Grelot Crown Wing. 11/16” shoulderless in Cuban Mahogany with some beautiful spinework- alternating Crown and Fleur-de-lys pattern. Enjoy your shave. Tom
Thank you both. TI seemed to put quite a bit of extra work into the spine and scales. I think it originally came with a matching wooden box, but sadly no longer.
Shave #52 on the Filly Sub Cero edge longevity test. Nothing to see here, move along... Soap was 3P lathered with a Rooney 1/3 Silvertip, and a dab of ABC almond balm finished up a BDBS shave. The Sub Cero edge is definitely holding up better than the DT or Cape.
It’s been a while since my favored Russian made the scene. Usually this is a very no-drama, extremely close shaving razor. Today it bit me. I think it’s a little too sharp at the moment. No pasted strop for this one for a bit. Staying on the Thiers Issard train... 1937 Special Coiffeur Just shy of 7/8 with an interesting design at the blade’s heel. Enjoy your shave. Tom
Atlas: 6/8 JWest near wedge. I struggle honing these thick grinds. This one is fresh off the stones and I am getting better. It was shaveable but I would like a little extra sharpness.
Shootout between the two foreground razor hones in today’s image in the honing thread. Winner: the stone on the left made a slightly smoother edge. Later on, I’m going to switch the razors and refinish just to make sure that I didn’t drop the ball prepping the razors, which I’m 95%+ sure that I didn’t. But the stone on the right made the edge on the Filly 14 Sub Cero that I’m doing the longevity test on, and that edge is nothing but the smoothest. Cream was 3P lathered with a Simpsons 59 and some SMN body cream finished up a perfect 10/10 shave. Not too bad for Gold Monkeys.
