I feel your pain, brother. It's that blasted chin and upper lip for me. Still, I'll get there--and you'll probably already be there waiting for me ;)

Most folks around here have moved away from some of the gear you listed so be prepared.

Adhering to our principles that changes of technique can improve your results with any gear, I'm going to make a few suggestions that helped me somewhere along the way.

Water - try cold, many swear by it

Alum - if you don’t already, rinse it off before you go to aftershave.

Pressure - you'll need some, but try lightening up

Blade life - dull blades cause irritation

Grain direction - for most of my life, I thought the hair on my lower neck grew North to South and that was how I shaved. Turns out to be the opposite. If I use a Mach3 today, I only go WTG (with the grain) South to North.

    Have fun

After all that work on the den today it's time to use it! I don't have a real focus this month - I know, shocking, right? However, I plan to use some of my shavettes throughout the month and try out the two new cheapos I bought last month. I also plan to start using up some soaps as I posted earlier. I'm starting with Soap Commander. I have the Courage version and probably just over half the tub left. Soap Commander is an excellent soap. Super slick, protective and as easy to lather as they come, especially with a synthetic knot in the 30DC LE brush. So why use it up and not repurchase? I love tallow soaps and Soap Commander is Vegan. Probably the best Vegan soap out there but.....I just rarely ever use it because of that.

I chose the Fatboy to start out the new year in style and fitted it with a Sharp Star. Talk about smooth and effective. Perfect three passes and the baby showed up to keep the new year baby company. Nothing could be finer. Glad to have so many of you along for the ride again this month and into the new year! Have a great Thursday!!

Great to have you back comrade Adam!! I figured you'd settle back in once you could join in more of the fun again. Kudos for making that NB19 work, but I know your wife so I know the motivation that was applied!

Welcome aboard!! I guarantee you the problems are with your technique. That's why we're here! The mantra you'll see over and over is....."Technique Trumps Tools". And it's very true. Just like anything else, you have to learn to shave properly and make the tools do what they're supposed to do, and designed to do. That's why we recommend a 30 Day Rule to start. One razor, one blade, one brush, one soap. Take out all of the variables except your technique. That, then, teaches you the proper technique and you're off and running like a pro!

Glad you found us and please feel free to ask anything. Somebody will answer you, probably more than one and maybe more than you need! We're just a friendly bunch.
