It really depends. The more highly polished the finish, the more you see every imperfection. I start with 4 hours tumbling in stainless steel pins. That is enough for a factory quality finish. Gillette didn't spend a lot of time polishing. Beyond that I have a polishing wheel I put in my CNC spindle. I can polish all the flat areas with that in a few minutes. If the razor has a lot of pitting and issues they look better with more of a mat finish. Honestly on most of the Superspeeds I have done I just spend about 5 min polishing the doors.
i like u.s gillettes nickel plating,it is better on their 40s razors,ie senator and ranger.the 50s razors were durable but not so polished.
That's a great shave. I just started using Aqua Velva a couple of months ago--don't know how I slogged through life without it
Hello and good morning to the crew and everyone else! Got the Neo-Ras working ok and decided to run with a different pack of wolves today. A little single edge razor called a Dandy Shaver. It uses a special blade, but if you remove the spline and cut off about 1/8 inch from the side of a Personna GEM blade it, fits just fine. It doesn't have a proper cap ti ride so to speak, but you still have to run this tool like it does. Looking at it would give you the false impression that it's a heavy hitter, then the first few strokes reveles it's just not, just a mild little blade holder. Two passes both head and face, I'm clean and smooth, although not great, it's still a fine shave needing some touch up on the chin and head. The Razorock works fine, all done. all Enjoy! tp
Thank you, Tim! Originally, it had a strong scent, but over time it has weakened to the point that it isn't enjoyable to use. It may be that the scent isn't evenly distributed throughout the puck. As the say, ymmv.
January 9th Razor: Occam's Enoch Blade: Schick Proline P30 (2) Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket Pre-shave: PAA The Cube Soap: PAA Boomtown Bay Rum PAA Galactic witch hazel PAA AA Bay Rum Star Jelly AS: PAA Boomtown Bay Rum Good morning Three operator induced weepers this morning. Two above the lip and one on the chin. I rarely draw blood and did it three times this morning, all on the second pass. The alum only sparked in those spots and the end result is the usual near BBS. Tomorrow's another day and another shave. Have a great day!
You may be right, Gary! Also, using a shaving brush and shaving soap helps. Like most DE safety shavers, the canned goo was the only way to go. It wasn't until I got my brand new Rockwell 6C that I ordered their brush and shaving soap. It was the first time that I used a brush and shaving soap. I wasn't into straights at the time. I didn't realize that this was the beginning of my transformation and I would be a TSD/30DC member 2 months later. The rest is history.
It's a nice classic shave, Patrick. I didn't know that there is a luxury version of Williams. I guess it is only sold in Camada.
