How do you all get that thick of lather?

First, good soap - Stirling is fantastic to work with, and I definitely find it easier to build a good lather with it than some others.

Second, patient loading. I always start with a fairly dry brush - I soak for about ten minutes and then give it about three solid shakes with the brush held vertically - then load. I don’t load with crazy fast swirling but at a good clip, and for twenty seconds or so with Stirling (maybe another ten for a harder soap like DRHarris or Pre de Provence, and only about 15 with softer soaps like Razorock).

Finally, a good vigorous building with slow additions of water. So once loaded it’s into the bowl the brush goes (and accumulated soap from the sides of the container) - and start building. I swirl pretty vigorously, alternating clockwise, counter clockwise, left-right and top-bottom. After every couple changes of direction I’ll add hot water if needed - just a few drops from my fingertips, and then resume building until I’ve got what I want in terms of density and glossy surface.

It takes a while - but I typically have a good lather from start to finish in five minutes or less. Cream lathering is a lot faster since I just stuff an almond size amount into the middle of the brush knot (always dryer than I use with soap) and go from there the same way.

Anyway sorry for being overly wordy - but this technique works well for me.

    Todd

Profumo is pretty awesome. I never bought the original Acqua di Gio. Didn't hate it but it was just 'ok'. But Profumo is a great fragrance. Take the things that were good about the original and makes them great.

Great shave with the Occam’s DE. Aided by the wonderful PannaCrema Tallow (shame it was discontinued) shave soap, it was a smooth and a luxurious feeling shave. A great evening and fantastic shaves to all....
