January 21 SOTD: Razor: Karve Christopher Bradley Blade: Polsilver Brush: PAA Starcraft Lather: PAA Oubliette Aftershave: PAA Oubliette Oubliette got the call this morning, and I find this to be a terrific scent. Very much on the Barbershop spectrum, this scent has some nice powder notes with a bit of woodiness to them. Tobacco is definitely present followed by a hint of florals. It is a wonderful scent and high on my list. I did two passes with the Karve for a nice DFS. I hope everyone has a great day!
Nice of you to say, Clint. Thank you, Jim! Kiritimati is excellent. I'm planning on adding one more at the end of the month. As of now your description of Controversy put it in the lead ahead of Good Vibrations. I may go for an A&E instead. @clint64 really has me looking at Bad Habits. Decisions, decisions.
Corners of the mouth for me were also tough. Tough whiskers, odd contortion to get it flat, somewhat sensitive to over shaving. Even with a razor that doesn't bite....still feels like it will. Since you have the DX now....maybe try this with no blade for practice. There is a line from the outside of your nose straight down to bottom of chin/jawline. Crosses the corner of your mouth. Contort mouth to left side to shave the right mouth corner. Opposite for left side. Small puff of air in mouth at the same time, helps get the area flatter. Then, just do a light stroke from above the lip/bottom of nose, to jawline. I use front half (or third) of a straight razor. You can do shorter strokes as you learn. As you do the stroke, you'll learn to further move mouth/lips around to get them out of the way. Once you get comfortable, you can also do the same mouth contortion, and do a side to side stroke. Start at about a 1/2 inch in from corner of mouth, then go from corner of mouth towards ear, about 1-2 inches. Doing this 2 passes each side, I'm as smooth as can be in the corners of the mouth. For those old enough to remember this commercial....ancient Chinese secret.....it is a little easier with a smiling blade. Hope this helps. Any questions, let me know.
Stunning picture, Clint! The brush looks fantastic! Wonderful picture and report, Jim! Sounds like another to consider. Not sure if it's a current offering though.
Thank you, Jim! I am pretty sure it is available. I think they brought it back a little bit ago and have kept it around ever since. In fact, I think you can get it in CK6.
I have a defective Rex Ambassador. It’s on its way back to RE for assessment. If nothing is the issue, I’ll probably sell it.
Gary, I like that avatar! There were probably many of those back when men were men and women loved them for it.

Quick report before running out the door today: Jan 21 3 pass shave today, and another flawless performance by Soap Commander. I even lathered up with the way-too-large bowl with the way-too-large agitators. Lather was slightly foamier than usual, but still performed fantastically. Only used three drops of menthol, but like yesterday, applied a single drop to my lather before lathering my face. Much cooler shaves than usual. Aftershave splash followed by Glacial Unscented balm, and I'm smooth, cool, and irritation free. Flare Tip w/Personna Blue (2) Soap Commander Drive Frost Drops enhanced (1 drop per pass) Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS Glacial Unscented Balm Will check in on and off throughout the day. Have a fantastic one, all!
