I have a very nice old brush I'm planning on reknotting. After removing the knot the body of the brush is filled with plaster or something similar. Do you guys replace it (the plaster) with anything or should I just glue in the new knot. Thanks.

I generally remove it and replace it with epoxy. I had too many pick up moisture and crack the handle also when dropped the plaster adds no strength, but the epoxy adds strength. It is a PITA to remove, but is doable with a narrow (1/4 wood chisel ). Take it very slow and using only hand pressure. Be very intentional and don't be in a rush; it usually takes me between 15 -30 minutes per handle to clean out.
