  1. Thanks Jim! I actually found that lather was a bit thicker than last nights . This is good shave cream!

  3. Fantastic looking shave, Patrick! Was it Evan who hot lathered Cryogen? Sounds like a pretty amazing contrast--hot lather and menthol! :D

  4. Glad you like the Booster, Patrick. FYI- there is added glycerine in there as well.
The Booster splashes are available through IB.

  5. I think it was Evan yes. Contrasting mixture but it really opens up the sinuses and is sooooo relaxing.

  8. I love it Jason. Was out in the cold and my skin was feeling it . After the hot shave and Booster, I forgot all about how my face was feeling.
I looked them up last night and see they are sold out. Its actually a couple bucks cheaper at TBBS in Toronto.

  12. Somehow I failed to read the front page of this great forum. Not the thread, the forum. You know, The Shave Den. I tend to enter by linking through a comment made or a quote someone has so I miss the front page.

Two things. First of all, there is another raffle on and there are some fantastic prizes. Seriously - some very cool razors, brushes, and other stuff. Get in on it. All money goes to keep TSD running!!!

Second - and apologies to @Queen of Blades for being late with this, but February 3rd marked the 13th anniversary of TSD!!!!! We celebrated our 5th anniversary as a thread, but without the Queen and all she and Sparky do around here we wouldn't have a place of our own within it!! Thank you to both of them for their dedication to this great place on the web!!! How about a round of congrats for 13 years, eh?

  14. Common Shavette/Straight Razor FAQ

    Will I get cut?

    Yes.

    Will it be OK?

    Yes.

Is it as fun as it looks?

    Yes

Will it improve my ability to handle any razor?

    Yes

Should I really commit to 100 consecutive shaves, with the goal of full competence and even practical mastery?

    Yes

    Do chicks really dig scars?

@Keithmax is called to the stand

Does shaving with open blades confer any special masculinity or status?

No. But I will pronounce you a Jedi when it happens. You'll still have buy your own lunch, and pro MMA is still out of reach.

Caveat... You could also be a Sith Lord. Consult the aforementioned Keith on how that works.

Should I just go ahead and do it?

    Yes

  15. FAQ answers....for Canucks (looking at you @jtspartan) with regard to open blades...

  16. Thanks for the kind mention. Shavettes were the last style I mastered. Totally doable, but new guys should probably consider traditional SR first.

  17. Don't shave with a traditional SR or Shavette. Rather, simply attempt to completely wipe all of the lather from your face, gently, with the bevel held at low angle of attack.

As your ability and fine motor skill adjust to the kamisori and three finger grips, you'll be able to keep the razor steady and moving parallel to the beard. The grips are harder than the actual shaving.

After 30-35 shaves you'll be "shaving" and not "endeavoring to avoid injury".

75 shaves... You'll be competent with it.

90 and you'll know if it's your thing.

    100.... Jedi.

250....the question will become "why do we tell people to wait? It's unbelievable how close and comfy this works out, and it's just tedious, it's not hard at all."
