Hey everybody! I’m a “1st time // long time...” who finally registered today. I’ve been in the same field of work since 1996. Last year I joined a forum related to the tools of my trade. As a 20+ year veteran I have learned (still learning) more as a result of interactions there, than I ever thought I could know. Participating in that community has brought many great things. I joined TSD to learn and participate, with hopes of improving my skills, knowledge, equipment, experience, results, etc. I look forward getting more involved. I have a lot to learn, and based on experience I know that engaging with kind folks and experts on forums like this is one of the absolute best ways to make progress quickly. Practice and experience are great but focused insight brings greatness!
Welcome to TSD. I'm fairly new myself, but I can tell you that all the things you enjoyed in the forum for the tools of your trade can be found here as well (just different tools) If focused insight is your thing, you'll love the 30 Day Challenge group (30DC group). You can check it out here. Looking forward to hearing more from you in the future!
All, many thanks for the warm welcomes! @timabababaluka - very kind of you to offer some direction. 30DC is an excellent resource and most intelligent approach to truly understanding things. My main hobby is sharpening and polishing kitchen knives, and is connected to my profession (chef). My biggest focus is carbon steel forged in the Japanese traditions. And that’s what led me here. Falling through the rabbit hole of JNATs, I had acquired several stones that are appropriate for razors. Having a considerable head start with all my sharpening equipment I had very little to lose in picking up a used Kamisori. Which led to purchasing another Kamisori... and now I’m here! It’s been a lot of fun learning to hone. But of course I found endless joy in using the tool as I’m really really loving all the nuance and particulars (results too) of wet shaving. See you guys out there!
Hi from Seoul, nice to meet you. Falling down the JNat rabbit hole is an expensive hole to fall down.
I envy your skill set and ability, then. I've had very little luck sharpening knives--heavy handed and impatient are terrible attributes when it comes to sharpening just about anything
