Anyone use a 1924?

One is inbound so I'm delaying my shave until it arrives. Of course it's well known (maybe infamous) among single edge razors but I don't recall seeing many guys using one regularly. Just curious if I'm wrong on that? Thanks for any input.

Is that the GEM flip-top known as a Shovelhead? If so, I have one.

They are great shavers. Shallow angle light touch. Then you will get great Blade feel for full control of your shave.

Let us know how it goes.

I have and use such razors, I have a few of them.
    I like them!
    BUT!

I tend to use very efficient (read aggressive) razors and sharp blades.
A new blade for each shave, using Pesonna GEM PTFT blades for that type of razor.
I love new Feather blades for my DE and Artists razors.
One blade per shave, then bin it.

    Back to the 1924.
It does a good job if you ride the cap and don't use much pressure. A good prep is always a good ideal too.

See the 30DC thread, read the beginning, its important.

    Nice razor!

The Shovelheads have been one of my altime favorite razor designs... From the 1924 back to its Daddy, the 1909. Youre a lucky man man to have one on its way. Welcome to our de Mesquita fan club. I'm sure you will love it!!

    thevez2 uses Gillette's new Tarantula Razor - 8 blades!!

Man, I almost forgot about these. I’ve been so wrapped up in the Feather AC style SE razors, that o haven’t even touched one of my GEMs in years. After my February One Blade is over, I’ll have to fix that.

    I never owned a 1924, but I used one in a pass-around here. It’s a fantastic razor!

USPS suprised me, it arrived yesterday evening, put in a new blade for this morning's shave. You all know the rest...it's louder, definitely gives more blade feel, and feels more businesslike.

    I like it.

Doesn't glide like the rounded 1912 but it didn't drag either, and did give a superior result; BBS after 2 passes vs my usual three for SE. There were a few weepers b/c of my habit of ATG but Dickinson's styptic juice took care of that.

She's come a long way since tearing me up on my 1st ever noob wet shave all those years ago. And my long chain handle fits. :D

Thanks again to all for your input.

24 hours later, no need to shave yet, beard only now becoming feelable. That is pretty efficient.

Haven't shaved since, beard is now quite visible. This morning's shave will be a good test.
