Find me in AL someday. We'll wander the countryside in search of regional Mexican classics. Like la multas and ordon de birria. We can even go 45 miles north and using our cupped hands... drink from the natural spring at Jack Daniel's distillery and see how it is done.

    You show up....we'll do it

And barbecue. American barbecue, as we know it, was actually invented in a five county area surrounding me. I'll show you the shacks that have it.

I did eat some great BBQ while living in the land they call Alabama. And yes, the best is in shacks.

    Face too

It's funny you mention that. Terrestrial radio, from AM towers, featuring live talent, is an amazing media form. It's my fave. When I hear myself I feel I speak too staccato and consonant. I need to slow down and put the brakes on the southern machine gun. Radio is rich medium. It's sad that it is dying.

One may also attend ice hockey at minor pro and NCAA levels.

Watching us watch hockey? You'd see a game with the Lynyrd Skynyrd song stealing the show from the Anthems. And yes, both flags are permanently displayed inside the arena.. Lots of Canadian small university squads road trip here.

    Strange area

Furthest east I've been in the U.S. was the westernmost part of Illinois last summer. I had the whole family in tow, and wouldn't unleash that on anyone. But if I ever get back that way (and I hope to), consider it done! :D

The first professional hockey game I saw in person was in 1998 in Huntsville. The Huntsville Channel Cats. My wife at the time won two free tickets on the radio and surprised me at work with them. I was one of the managers at Golden Corral there. I left early to make the game and we had an absolute blast. Those young players were all fighting for their place on the ladder up to the NHL and it was some of the fastest and physical hockey I've seen. Before that I had only watched NCAA hockey and the NHL on TV. We had seats right on the glass behind the penalty boxes so the view was excellent. I was already a fan but that made me the true hockey guy I am today.

    I'm guessing Nauvoo.

I was there this summer myself. I bought a razor and a shave brush at the antique store.

We started a tradition where I take each child on a 1:1 trip when they turn 16. Easy commitment with all the airline miles I use to get.

Just so you know, when a middle aged man travels alone with a woman literally decades younger, no one assumes she's his daughter.

Good heavens... the man is psychic! ;)

I was impressed by how beautiful everything is back east. And, oddly enough, with fireflies--never seen one up until then. Wish I could have stayed longer than 2 nights and a day. Also wish someone else was driving so I could have seen more of the area than just the road :happy102:

That's the way to do it! We piled everyone into the E350 and drove. And drove. And drove. You haven't lived until you've spent all day in a van packed with bored children, one of whom (the 2 year old) singing the Spiderman theme song for most of the trip. Oddly enough... it was a lot of fun.

Ps. The only words he knows to the Spiderman theme song is 'Spiderman' (pronounced Pinerman).

Maple syrup, good beer and hockey! I love all 3, maybe not in that particular order!

Where else do you take 9 children? I think I saw you there. You were the frazeled bus driver with the beautiful tour guide and a load of squabbling dwarves, correct?
