  1. It’s been a long time since I’ve shaved with an SE and even longer since breaking out a 1914. I was in a hurry today and reached for this instead of my usual straight. Wow, wonderful shave. So enjoyable that it’ll bump my C3 as a travel razor on an upcoming trip. :happy036:

  2. Wednesday February 19th SOTD

I just received this gently used Merkur Progress and thought I'd give it a spin - I had one some time ago and traded it to obtain a Parker Variant which never seemed to work for me.

I've had this vintage scuttle in my cabinet for some time and hadn't tried it until today. The scuttle definitely works well - the brush / lather def stayed warm! The Progress made fine work of 2 days growth but did leave me with a nick above my chin. No worries, alum took care of it. I think I'll repeat the Merkur tomorrow. Happy shaves all.

    Josh

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Super Speed
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
Soap - Stirling 2018 St. Louis Fair Debonaire LE
Brush - Stirling 2 Band Synthetic
    Post - Alum

What a day, what a day. Dance lessons complete. Yeah, I'm talented. Ok so now I can pull off a few moves Friday that won't make me look like a complete idiot. Or less of one anyway. Time to relax and shave and I moved to the 1959 Super Speed. I still consider the Flare Tip to be one of the best Gillette made and a real workhorse for the brand. It's a mild razor but does an excellent job of getting that shave done effectively and comfortably. After a few days of fighting technique and whatever else was going on I decided I deserved some just basic shaves. I chose the Rapira Platinum Lux blade because, like its other Moscow Russian brethren, it's a great blade that I don't show enough love to.

To line the runway I picked up the Fair Debonaire LE that I got back in 2018. It's a Vanilla/Tobacco scented soap that stays tan/brown even in lather form. Great scent and usual top of the line Stirling performance. It was a limited edition soap but.....you can still get it. It's now Haverford from Stirling and I highly recommend it. I went ahead and used the Stirling synthetic brush to make that great lather.

Three full passes and everything was fantastic. No blood......finally......and no irritation from the alum. Great BBS finish and I'm set for the night. Have a great Thursday!!

  20. Today's Shave;
    • Game Changer 84 (Jaws, OC, and SB)
    • Dorco Prime (1)
    • Colonel Conk Bay Rum
    • VdH Bowl
    • Fine Lather Bowl
    • VdH Green Boar
    • Gentleman Jon's Alum Block
    • Clubman Special Reserve AS/EdC
    • Homemade Hair Tonic
    • Clubman Whiskey Woods Body Powder
    • Every Man Jack Cedarwood Deodorant
    • Dapper Dan Heavy Hold Pomade
My first go with the Game Changer. I was really expecting a much more aggressive shave. I was shocked on how smooth it was. The Jaws plate was perfect for the first WTG pass. The OC plate just a smidgen less aggressive than the Jaws for XTG. The final \TG pass was perfect with the SB. Just smartly engineered.
