  1. Thanks Joe.

I like to finish on pasted balsa. An easy way to smooth them out IMO.

I'm not sure if that stone is burnished enough yet to deliver a smooth edge in my hand. But since I'm thinking about it, I'll try it one day. I've read that you want to see them gloss a little.

No belly in that razor. It has a lot of flex.
  2. Go for the feel of the hairs cutting. I'm unable to recall when that sensation began to be noticeable, but it is a bit less likely to bear down when doing so.
  3. Thanks Jason!
Gonna glue it again to see how it shaves everything.
    Using moer glue, this time.

    Cool replating job.
    Good going.
I want to replate some of my old razors.
I think I have all the stuff already sitting here.
    Just haven't put it together.

  5. Creed Silver Mountain Water, if I am not mistaken. None of the estrogen units in my domain would wear it, my oldest loves Tuscany.

Guess I gotta go get me one of them thar jackets.

  7. I am in the habit of wetting my fingers with warm water and going over the shaved area to see where my next pass needs attention. I kind of smear things around doing so and am making my evaluations on sickness then.
Most soaps I've used are fine with the once over with the blade. I think the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quick catch-ups on a razor stroke irritate far more than a full relathered pass especially with soap where I do not find that residual slide.
One that comes to mind is Col Conk, a glycerin type soap that puffs an incredible lather with ease. I love the stuff, but shave just a but different when I use it.
  8. Awesome shine!
  9. fine shave and pic Bill..

  18. I replated several with just a phone charger, a nickel anode, vinegar, and salt. The results were pretty mixed. If you have several to do then buy a bright nickel plating solution from Rio Grande. Just about everything I use can be purchsed at any hardware store.

Honestly, if you want to do it for the excitement of learning and DIY pride, go for it. I'll do all I can to help. If you are trying to plate a few razors on the cheap, you won't save any money doing it yourself. Either the quality will suffer or you'll spend a lot of time and money getting it right.
  19. awesome replates Evan..they look fantastic..fine shave and pics..good afternoon..
  20. Great picture, Terry!
