March Focus AoS Sandalwood~~Parker~~Merkur/Gillette Platinum First shave since Sunday and it was needed. Also first use of a Gillette Platinum blade. More on those in a bit. First, let's take a look at the lather made with AoS Sandalwood. I must say that the Captain's Choice lathering bowl (first gen.) really facilitates a great lather. The Parker brush, because it's not as dense as my Simpson brushes, doesn't suffer from we call being a "lather hog". Flow-through is good and the sides of the bristles are quite soft. Paint brush strokes splay the knot nicely, eliminating the need to smash the knot into your face. Now to the last of my Russian blade acquisitions, the St. Petersburg Gillette Platinum. 1) Minus one point for being single wrapped and having glue dots. 2) The harshest of the 4 blades. (Others being Gillette Silver Blue, Sharp Star and Voskhod) 3) My least favorite, Comrades. With the minimal blade gap combined with a rough edge, I was compelled to press a little and... my neck suffered. Some irritation and some weepers. Nothing extraordinary, but annoying, nonetheless. The roughness was, of course, most apparent in the ATG pass on the neck. Everywhere else is tough enough to withstand the crappiest of blades. Luckily, I happened to have only purchased 50 of these. I know the month is only 11 days old, but if I had to rank these blades today, this would be the result: 1) Voskhod 2) Sharp Star 3) Gillette Silver Blue 4) Gillette Platinum This may change, but first impressions are usually correct.
that's a good pancake..i get bored easily as well.with all these soaps, brushes, razors etc they have to be used.thank fully i am more content with costlier items like cars and wives..
Terrific picture and great looking lather, Joseph! Sorry the shave wasn't better. I haven't tried my Gillette Platinum blades (blue packaging) yet.
Thanks Joe....especially in that I really need it. The last time I had so much astroturf on my face was when I was released from the hospital this summer. First thing I did upon getting back to my apartment was have a nice shower&shave. I didn't care that it was about 5 PM
Thanks Jim,-I had to be a bit modest with this grade, as I did get the cut...but, as I said, I didn't mind getting it in this case.
I just wrote my review for the Central Texas Soaps aftershave. Luckily I haven't yet seen someone spell scent "sent". That's happened with a few Stoylin reviews.
