    Shavettes

Razor: Feather Artist Club DX Pearl Handle
    Blade: Feather Super Professional (1)
    Brush: DSCosmetic Galaxy 26mm Silvertip
    PS: Proraso Green
SS & AS: Stirling Sharp Dressed Man

I'm pretty sure I had a bad blade. My wife was looking at the blade bank and removed a few blades by accident. I carefully reloaded them weeks ago. I must have bluntet the one blade.

With a fresh blade today the old angles worked just fine and I was able to find the right amout of pressure. I did nick myself a few times but that was due to me feeling clumsy having screwed up my form over the last week. I kept thinking, "I thought feathers were sharper than this." A fresh blade made a huge difference and I am confident I'll get the feel of it soon. Today felt much more like my Dovos. Not exactly, but much closer.

  8. Ummm. Aren't a number of us doing a shavette focus this month? ;)

Im considering doing a whole month on one blade with my autostrop in May... well except for the homemade straight I will shave with at least once. Which reminds me. I need to order a knife blank.
  9. Evan, very nice shave, pic and post!

  13. Very nice, Evan. Good call on the blade. I've never tried to put an AC blade back in the 'cartridge', but I can't imagine it is a seamless process. Love the SDM as well. Just a great scent.

  14. Just an amazing pic, Gary. That SC looks fantastic. Is it replated, or did the British ones come with that finish?

    Shavette Shave #11--”What About Elevensies…?”

    Gear
    • Razor: Focus R21 Shavette
    • Blade: Personna Blue (1)
    • Brush: Stirling Kong
    • Soap: Soap Commander “Drive”
    • Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops
    • AS: Avon Wild Country--I know, right? Keith @ hit me up last week and offered to let me try a bit of Pinaud’s Citrus Musk. I had been wanting to get some citrus in my rotation somewhere, and since I had to drop Tsuka this seemed like a great opportunity to fill the void. Because nobody at TSD can walk one mile without desiring to walk with you twain, my already generous sample of Citrus Musk (sent in an Avon glass pipe, no less) came with a glass car, full-up, with Avon Wild Country. I like it, but of course that means nothing. I put on a healthy dose early this morning, then went to wake the Missus up for a hug good-bye and received no protestations--a good sign. I’ll reapply when I get home and just hang out for a bit. If she doesn’t say anything… Wild Country, we are a ‘go’!

    The Shave...
Yesterday I decided to start my shave XTG instead of WTG, so I did because, by Gadfrey, I’m that kind of guy. I quickly discovered that my WTG passes with a shavette reduce more hair than my XTG passes, so I scrapped that plan and just went at it.

1st pass was pretty effective reduction, and I buffed my chin as well. 2nd pass might (ATG) might be more accurately called a 2nd and 3rd. I only did one pass but found myself repeating strokes simply because I was enjoying doing it. Got some slight irritation as a result--better off re-lathering and admitting that I’m taking three passes. I’ll catch myself next time. Did a fool’s pass without feeling foolish even.

The result is BBS on cheeks, back half of the jaw, upper lip and most of the chin. DFS along neck and front half of the jaw. DFS/CCS on the lowest, southernmost part of my chin. This would have been the perfect Sunday shave, and the slight irritation an acceptable trade-off.

    But today is Thursday.

I’ll save these shaves for church or date nights with the Missus. Still, can’t say I’m disappointed with how things turned out--I just don’t think it’s a sustainable/viable shave for every day.

I’ll catch up later this afternoon. You all have a fantastic day-before-Friday! :D

    11 down, 89 to go!
  17. Beautiful Bay Rum shave, Terry! The Ever Ready 1912 is a phenomenal razor--beautiful to look at, and smooth. That was a hard razor for me to let go of, and if I ever decide to decide to go back to SE razors, it and the MMOC will be my first re-acquisitions. For now, I'm just happy to see an ER 1912 getting some love. Thank you! :D
