Stunning set up and gorgeous razor, Bill!

We had our corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes last week--we'll do round 2 tomorrow or Tuesday. At our house any day can be St. Paddy's day :D

The difference in blades is definitely more noticeable in a DE razor than in a shavette. Because a shavette allows for the full 180 degree rotation of the edge it's far easier to get the blade at a point it's working smoothly and effectively. DE razors control the exposure, which is what makes them "safety" razors, but that also limits the amount of angle we are left to play with to get that optimum angle. Some blades will work better with some razors than others. Now, as @wristwatchb Charlie indicated, if you wander into blades like the Flying Eagle (horrid blade, simply horrid) or the Tiger (horrid as well, simply horrid) or several others (mostly made in China) it doesn't matter what you try to do with it. Those don't cut anything, or if they do it's so bad a shave that it will pull half the beard out, shave half of the remaining half and you'll wish for a quick death to escape the horrendous irritation. (By the way...the mention of "Flying Groundhogs" is a reference to my calling the Flying Eagle by a variety of names)

As Chris @Bama Samurai has said over and over and over and over - blade choice is not the primary factor in getting a good shave. Technique is first, second, and third. Then comes the blade. Maybe. Of course, some will not match up with certain skin types or some coatings may even create problems for some. But other than that - put them in a shavette and they work just fine. Put them in a DE and just find the one you like best. That YMMV thing we're not supposed to say? Yeah. That.

Grasshopper is showing great wisdome these days! The Flare Tip may be the best razor Gillette ever made. It's disguised as a rather mild instrument, but its ability to do the job is unmatched. And yes, using that shavette opened up some things for you that have made a positive difference. After a difficult day navigating food delivery in a plague, it brings a tear to my eye to see such learning and wisdom taking place.

Edge longevity, one of the great mysteries of life.

My preference is for 6/8 - 8/8 for two reasons. I struggle controlling lite razors, it so easy to make a bad move with them. With a big razor it is easier to fine tune the razor, for a small razor a small movement of the spine away from or closer to my skin makes a much bigger change in angle than with a big razor.

Joseph, I admire you drive for perfection in your shave as well as the ascetics. Glad you got rid of the granules.

I would of gassed up the jet and flown out for dinner but I wasn't sure they would let me into the country.

    I can't count that high.

I heard there is an accountant in GA fond of reloading munitions in front of youngsters wishing to date his daughters AND shiny shave gear AND fancy shave brushes, especially Chubby 2's that can help with shave accountings and make then audit-proof.

It's my back to work Monday safety razor shave. Loaded my 2011 R41 with a fresh Gillette 7'Oclock blue, yup the Russian one. An excellent shave, splash on some vintage Guerlain Derby and off to work.

Charlie, speaking of voices, I wonder if my friend in Pennsylvania, a Presbyterian minister, is setting up his services on line, as your church is doing.
