Thank you Tim. I did the same thing with a Brass General razor that turned out ok. I learned a lot that I used this time around. The main thing was to let the items sit in the solution until you are completely satisfied. Keep checking on the color but don't rush the process.
Thank you Gentlemen! Thanks Tim! I really like the J3Customs razors. Quality is very nice. They are made from '01 Tool Steel', which does need proper care (oiling between uses so it doesn't rust). My first J3 was one of the 'Bay versions. I'll use it tomorrow. The kami I used today was a custom design, where I sent Derek (J3Customs owner/forger) some drawings based on some of his designs from his website (which eludes me atm). Even for the custom razor, $$$ was very reasonable. Derek and I traded many texts during the process. Looks like he has some cool blades on 'daBay currently.....hmm.
March 24 Gillette Travel Tech Voskhod (2?) B-400 by Tom handle w/Envy White Supreme Two-band knot Mike's Hungarian Lavender Alum, Thayers WH, USB/Almond Oil, Floid Vigoroso, & Aramis EdT I took a detour this afternoon on my shavette focus in order to "use up" the Voskhod blade in my Travel Tech and put it away for awhile. On 2.5 days of growth, I performed four passes (WTG, ATG, XTG, and ATG) and touch ups. I shaved as carefully and purposefully as I knew how, and I chased BBS more than I ever had before. I was rewarded with one of the best shaves I've ever had. I'll call it BBS (my assessment stands even under 10X). For full disclosure, I can now feel one small spot near the corner of my mouth that could have used more attention. I'm sure I could find another spot or two on my lower neck as well. I'm still callin' this one a BBS. I was curious if I could pull off a comfortable BBS four-passer with a mild razor. Using a Travel Tech is, in itself, a further compromise when it comes to choosing a DE razor. The alum sparkled a little (nothing out of the ordinary), but the shave was boo boo free. I'm gonna call this one an epic shave, and I think tomorrow will be a 'no shave' day. This was a fun shave and one that reminds me that Technique Trumps Tools. I'll return to my Parker SRX on Thursday. Have a great evening, gents!
I was looking at his kamisori #2 (7/8 western grind half hollow). It's a little over 100 bones, but with the appropriate preparation I might be able to talk the Missus into that for a birthday gift--quite a ways to go, but by then I should have a pretty good idea as to whether or not the Dark Side truly is a path I'm ready to take. If I can figure out how to effectively hone an strop my Whipped Dog Sight-unseen on a budget over the summer, I'll probably make my opening gambit in early fall
wednesday shave..new project '32 ford as well.. roadster, business coupe,5 window or sedan ? tell me your thoughts gents..
Thank you, it is one of my favorites. I only use three DE razors now, 2011 R41, Joris and Karve for travel. It makes smile to know there is another 4 pass shaver now, plus an epic result. That is how it all started for me with an Whipped Dog sight unseen razor.
Gorgeous reds and blacks there, Gary! Looking at those rear wheels... I'm gonna say go with the roadster!
