great looking shave, Keith! I had to look up the Asylum Rx; I'd never even heard of it before. Really cool SE razor! Sorry the shave was less than epic--sure, you can't argue with results, but when the process is rough, the journey isn't nearly as fun. Hope it works out better next time
Beautiful photo, and great report and wrap up for the Start! Out of curiosity, if you had to choose between the Apollo and the Start, which one would you go with? Btw, hopefully the soar throat is just that... a sore throat.
I have just spent the last month focussing on Russian Blades. While I can't speak about Rapira, I can tell you that Sharp Star and Voskhod are superior blades. I also compared them to Gillette Silver Blue and Gillette Platinum. These last two are "good", but IMO, not even in the same league as the first two I mentioned.
beautiful photo, Clint! Glad to hear the TN worked better for you today than yesterday. Love that C-MON brush, btw (nice color matching as well)
Wow, Paul! Don't know that I've run across the Super-duper Excellent shave before. Sounds like you had a phenomenal experience this morning--congratulations!
Oh and by the way... I polished up the old MMOC that 'Uncle' Screwtape sent me many months ago. Before: After: Pretty happy with the result and the reduced appearance of the watermarking.
March 30th Gillette Old Type w Polsilver (3) APShaveCo Badger&Boar/ Resin&Sapele Stirling Gin and Tonic Thayers Maol Frosted Frankinlime I didn't shave this weekend, which is quite rare for me, so this morning's shave was dealing with a full 72 hour growth. Got a nice lather, but it took me a little longer than it usually does with Stirling. The brush is definitely still breaking in as well. 3rd day with the OT and I must say it did a great job with the 3 day growth. Anyone hoping for a 'I can't even tell there is a blade in there' experience probably wouldn't enjoy it, but I have loved the past 3 shaves with it. After 3 passes, I am almost completely smooth and that may be judging it too harshly. Finished with the Maol splash, which is a quality product that I haven't seemed to reach for enough recently. Overall, another fantastic shave. Have a great day all!
Very nicely done, James! I really enjoyed the time I spent with the MMOC--fantastic shaver once I got her all dialed in.
Thanks, Tim! The Apollo or the Start? They're both great razors but I would pick the Apollo. The 'smooth' baseplate is as smooth as the .69 Start but with a wider sweet. The 'aggressive' has almost as much blade feel as the 1.18 Start but feels less likely to bite. I also prefer the aesthetics of the Apollo. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
Awesome photo and report, Jason! That Gin and Tonic/Frosted Frankenlime sounds like a wonderful combo, and the OT sounds like a fantastic shaver. Ah, the couldn't-even-tell-there-was-a-blade-in-there experience: for me, personally, I have to place it somewhere between the leprechaun and the unicorn; however, I am determined to stumble across at least one of those three things at some point before I leave this world
I hear that. When you posted your 1st pic of the Apollo, I had to rub my eyes and look again more closely--beautiful razor! That it shaves as fantastically as it looks is further evidence that you brought home something special
