Before I start my diatribe, I take issue with this month's poll and am vociferously boycotting it.
April means adjustable and today is my one and only contribution that will adhere to the theme.
Now, I have to classify this shave and the first thing that came to my mind was:
HYPERBOLE.
There isn't a product pictured above that cannot be bettered for less money.
Let's start with the Ralph Lauren Safari.
I completely over-paid for this "much sought-after" and discontinued product.
The soap creates a decent enough lather, but I found it to be "fluffy"
The scent is eerily similar to vintage AoS tallow (Valobra), yet not nearly as dense
nor nearly as slick.
While I love my Simpsons, I unfortunately have to include this brush. Honestly, my
$25 Mondial is just as soft and creates lather just as well.
Wizamet Super Iridiums...meh. They're ok, but Sharp Star and Voskhods are better...and cheaper.
Well, I got lucky with the Sharp Stars. Apparently, they are now very difficult to find and expensive.
Question for the Cartel: Is it true they were manufactured for one year only, 2012?
Here's the biggy: The Fatboy.
Talk about hype. Bulky and cumbersome. The head is so massive, shaving around the nose is a pain.
The adjusting is...sorry, friends, a gimmick.
Lastly, the RL aftershave. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
Now, to clarify...
I got a great shave. My face feels soft.
I just looked at these products, added up what I paid and realized my money can be better spent.

Back with the TOBS Mr Taylors cream so that I can use this stuff up. The big Shavemac Flat Top is a joy face lathering. Three passes and touch ups ended in a drama free BBS shave. A splash of Fine L'Orange Noir was a perfect end to the shave. Off to my office today to wrap up a few things I couldn't get to yesterday, then I will be working remote for 3 days a week. Aaaand, a fine shave to begin this month. I've only had 4 shaves now with the Phoenix A.A. "Boomtown" soap, but looking into the puck, one would think I've had 44, not 4. 15 seconds to moisten the brush, 20 to load it. 2 passes, easily could have done 3....one slight weeper(first in my last 3 shaves). Could have done a bit better on the right side of my neck, just under my ear. The brush entered my skin giving it a nice warm sensation-must be akin to the hot towel prep. I liked that. Clubman Special Reserve to end things. . Very Excellent.

Good morning

Fantastic shave to start the month! Three passes for near BBS. Nearly silent alum.

I added something new to this morning's shave. Terrorade. Five drops to my lather and two drops into the palm of my hand with the aftershave. Very nice!

I'm going with an Anything Goes April. I have some newish razors that haven't seen many uses that I'd like to get to know a little better. I'll also do plenty of A&E this month but not exclusively enough to call it an A&E April.

I'm off work until Monday. I was told due to CDC guidelines. My wife is working from home so I'll need to try and stay out from under foot.

I'm giving this blade a 4/10.
Not particularly sharp. Sure as hell not smooth. I used the lightest of light touches and had my angle bang on... Yet after my first WTG pass my skin was on fire. Something about the coating on this blade sets my skin off. I suffered through the second and final pass (resulting in a near DFS) and then sent it to the blade bank in the sky! I certainly won't be revisiting that one!

On another note... I did order a tuck of 5 Voskhods earlier. Up next, though, is the highly spoken of: Gillette Silver Blue. This is a stainless blade, so no dodgy coatings should be bothering me here!

I'll be giving my face a day off to recover from it's 'Super Platinum' ordeal!

Not much fun when irritating products reveal themselves in your routine. Nice line up otherwise though James! I'm a fan of the Gillette Silver Blues, hope they work better for you!

Good afternoon guys! I wasn't going to shave my under 30 hr stubble (actually 26 hrs), but I just wanted some shave therapy.
Gillette Slim N4
Rockwell Blade (?)
Omega Pro 49 Boar Brush
Proraso Green SS and AS
Nivea ASB not pictured
Did a nice face lather with the Proraso. I really like this clean, fresh, lightly mentholated soap. I just did 2 passes without touchups for an IBSS+ shave. No mishaps were present during the shave. Finished the shave in the usual manner. Tomorrow will be a no shave day, but Favorite Friday is in 2 days. Since Keith and Blair brought out their Friodurs this week, I decided that I will be shaving with my Friodur on Favorite Friday. Have a great day guys! View attachment 222172 View attachment 222172

No photo. Relaxing shave today in a crazy time. I've been shaving about every other day. Stirling Blood on Steel meet-up soap is the next candidate for finishing off. I haven't bought anything shave related in 2020 so far. That will change when Stirling comes out with their Boat Drinks scent, but that will be in a couple of weeks.

We are doing well. Just thought I'd check in and say welcome to April!

Really nice Jim! I like the varied dimples vs. solid lines effect on the handle. The cap & bar polishing....smooth finish.....sure looks like it will be a gliding machine!

I'll be using only adjustables this month. I've got a smattering of razors with a range from 0 to 360, including an infinity setting between (known as open edges, the ultimate adjustable ). I'll occasionally rotate in a Rex Ambassador, Gillette 1.95 & a Gillette Slim.

Second outing with the Omega EVO. The biggest differentiator of the EVO bristle strand, from other synthetic bristle strands (at least ones I have), is that each EVO strand has a slight wave to it for it's length, but the overall bristle still ends up 'mostly straight' from the base to the tip. Each bristle tapers in smaller diameter towards the tip. Couple the two designs together when densely packed into a knot, and the knot holds water (as the bristles touch each other in more places), and the tapered tip creates a nice soft natural feel. Splays very nice, has just the right amount of backbone.

A very fun bowl and face lather today with PAA's CK6 formula. Quick brush wetting with warm water, small fling to shake out a little moisture & straight to loading. CK6's formula quick to start a lather, then move to the bowl for creating wonderful slick goodness. This Tanifugi straight is a fun razor to use, great audible feedback while shaving. 2 smooth passes everywhere, with an extra pass of 'G-Slide buffing ear to center' for the right neck/jawline area. DFS+ results, with one slight red spot on the flat of the chin. Quick application of PAA's Star Jelly (gotta get more!), followed with a great smelling blend of (from PAA's website) citrus - Lemon, Bergamot & Mandarin Orange, with notes of White Musk, Jamaican Ginger, White Pepper, Haitian Vetiver, Hiba Wood, Honey Amber, Black Sage, Peppermint, Jerusalem Pine. Quite the laundry list of aromas, but it's a truly great every day wifey approved fragrance that will always be in my den.
