Simply gorgeous Evan. The Rex and Mr EE brush are just meant for each other.

Beautiful photo and awesome report, Jim! :D

The handle on that Grizzly Bay is gorgeous (as is the razor). The CG LvL3 sounds a lot like shaving with a shavette :happy102:

April 3rd - Off focus (sort of)
Razor - Muhle R41 (2013) on an iKon Bulldog Handle
    Blade - Bic Chrome Platinum
    Brush - Yaqi Tuxedo
    Soap - Proraso Red (cream)
    Aftershave - TOBS Sandalwood

    IMG_20200403_152828.jpg

I don't know why, but my R41 was calling to me. I decided to load it up with a blade that I have never tried before (I guess it still qualifies as a blade trial shave). Used a soap I that I have never used before. I thought that it might be interesting.

It certainly was! A 2 pass shave with a few touch ups on the chin and jawline (as always) and I am near BBS. Just my trouble spots on my neck letting me down. It's definitely a DFS++.

This razor is brutally efficient. The blade was plenty sharp and smooth. I give it an 8/10. I did have to go over a couple of spots in my cleanup pass a few times. That's why it's not getting any higher (plus I can't comment on longevity etc.). Proraso is an excellent soap - its slickness and cushion is better than that of my TOBS (in my opinion), as is the post shave feel. A quick splash of aftershave and I was lit up red momentarily, followed by a calm smooth face. What a bloody good shave it was!

    Enjoy your shaves gents!

    Awesome April shave, Evan!
If I wasn't busting at the seams with soaps and aftershaves I would definitely join up.

Gorgeous set up, Blair--that Filarmonica is stunning (I can see why so many people want to get their hands on one). :D

BTW, the Juicy Fruit is a nice addition :happy102:

So after trying two different Chiseled Face soaps in the new "Silk" formula, I had to sell them.
(Sold quickly at a substantial discount)
During the shave, they burned my face!
Both the Ghost Town Barber and the Sherlock.
It should be noted that the Midnight Stag in the ORIGINAL formula did NOT!
Here are the both the new and old ingredients:

(It should be noted, that both the GTB and the Sherlock share the same ingredients)

NEW: Ingredients: Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Castor Oil, Beef Tallow, Silk Hydrolysate, Potassium Hydroxide (lye), Lanolin, Aloe Vera Juice, Water, Fragrance, White Kaolin Clay, Sodium Lactate, Kukom Butter, Allantoin, Sodium Hydroxide (lye), Sugar, Slippery Elm Bark Extract

OLD: Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Aloe Vera Juice, Beef Tallow, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Glycerin, Fragrance, Mango Butter, Avocado Oil,
    Silk Powder

    I am
certainly no expert, nor am I a chemist, but imo, it HAS to be either the Slippery Elm Bark Extract or the Sodium and Potassium Hydroxides...or maybe a combination of all three. I kept the aftershaves and re-ordered these two soaps in the original formula.
Now, if the original formula soaps burn my face...:angry019:
    To what degree is my skin being burned? Not enough to leave red, splotchy marks;
indeed, I could easily describe it as a annoying irritation...but annoying it is, and I cannot tolerate
shave soaps that irritate my skin.
I can list the soaps that have burned and/or irritated my face on one hand:
    Krampert's Bay Rum
Catie's Bubbles Le Piment de la Vie
    Haslinger Coconut
    That's all I can recall.
So, in conclusion, the Sherlock soap has a great scent (so does the GTB) but the formula
    simply doesn't work for me.

It's genuinely a lovely razor! Just take your time and watch the pressure. The iKon Bulldog handle makes a big difference too!

I'm not a big fan of the injectors, but if they work well I'm OK with them.

    Thanks Clint!

    Thanks Jim!

    Thanks Gary!
Hope your day is great too.

    Hey Joe!
    Sometimes I get lucky.

    Thanks Jim!
They do a Great job for me, IF I only use a blade once.

    Thanks Tim!
    Right on all accounts.

Every one have a nice day!
    Stay safe!

    Thank you, Tim!
The LvL3 CG is the only razor I have that feels as blade forward as a shavette. I've read a few forum reviews where it's mentioned in the same breath as the 2011 R41 and the Ikon Tech. I have never shaved with either of those razors so I couldn't confirm nor deny.
Wonderful shave, picture and report, James!

    Thanks, Jim!

Grab yourself an R41 (2013) and stick it on a heavy stainless handle (I know you've got lots of those ;)). Ignore the fact that the head is pot metal (it's like $20) and marvel at the wonderful shaves that it delivers.

I like my Slim and my Fatboy. It could be as much that I'm a gadget guy, but they're fun to own. I will admit my Parker Varient and my Rex Ambassador, now that I have dialed it down, give an easier shave. I'm now at that point where I don't like adjustables as much in general, but after this morning, I will be using my Rex more.

Regarding the RA. I thought it would be like my other adjustables and 75% of the adjustment range would be best. Turns out on my Rex, 2 is about perfect for me.
