lol, I hear ya! I’ve done the same thing. According to Arne (Polarbeard), that’s a fermented herring, not a shark. But it has big teeth and looks angry. Arne claims that there are 14 versions of this herring, fish, shark, whatever.
@GAW9576 after your beautifull razors. I almost feel ashamed to show this one; a Friedrich Herder 25. I just started cleaning
Columbia Cutlery Worcester Mass. 11/16+ inch In the rough, but it has very good bones. It looks a little rough, but there is little wear to the blade. It does have extensive tarnish, but just a very light dusting of rust. It should be right at 11/16th inch, after restoration and honing. It says Extra Hollow Ground, but really it is a good Full Hollow grind.
Able to get my hands on the asymmetrical Hoshi Tombo 6000. I know it has some issues but the hone wear looked pretty minimal and straight on the Omote side, and if the scales were trashed, I had an idea. Seller’s photos: and the Omote side: A quick blade clean up, and then I worked the wedge area to a point that it is at least serviceable for the time being. After some work: The scales aren’t too bad... stable but not pretty. And a shot of the grind (Seller’s photo): Happy hunting. Tom
Well done Mark, I think that one will suit you! Me, I’ve been razor gambling on eBay again. I bought a ‘travel’ kit that’s probably really meant to be used on a dresser, the razor and brush would probably fall out of it in any period luggage, not to mention breakage. What got me intrigued was the razor - a CVH MK 32 with bad images. But the seller said that the stuff was in excellent condition and offered 30-day returns for return shipping, so what the heck. I think that I probably broke even on this one, nothing was broken or even chipped, everything was dirty, and the razor probably started Life as a 6/8 but is now about 1/32” less - it’s between 11/16 and 6/8 from the edge to the spine wear. But in good condition with pretty ivory scales. I’ll take that. The brush appears to be an old not-broken-in boar that sheds a bit, But it’s usable though maybe not for long at close to maybe 100 years old. But wait, there’s more! I’ve often admired Bill’s @Edison Carter Sunday Shaver, and now I have one - Dimanche is ‘Sunday’ in French.
Nice acquisition. A unique set! I love the jimped thumb notch. Looks like a razor saying "Use Me". The engraving makes me wonder if we should be out looking for the other six. Speaking of the Sunday Shaver, that 5/8 shoulderless blank was a Dovo exclusive. Hearing recent news about the company makes me wonder if the forge will open availability to others.
Veritable Vincent IC landed in the mailbox. A solid 13/16 razor from Thiers, “Les Roi des Tranchants.” The spine to blade transition looked a little bit like excessive hone wear in the pics, but once in hand, you can see it is the design. Here is a look at the grind: I look forward to giving “The King of Sharp” a go. Happy hunting. Tom
