    April 8 SOTD:

    Razor: Gillette Slim
    Blade: Polsilver
    Brush: PAA Starcraft
    Lather: Stirling Eskimo Tuxedo
    Aftershave: Stirling Glacial SDM

I actually shaved relatively early this morning, but am just now getting around to posting. It was a nice two pass DFS. Stirling SDM is a great scent and really helps to set up a nice day. I hope everyone has had a good day.
  2. Love the photo Jim.
  3. My point is that you might have a hard time doing the second pass of ATG or XTG depending on how you did it previously. You shave everyday so I can see how you can get away with a one pass shave. I just wanted to give you my objective opinion. Thanks for receiving my points with good humor Tim.
  4. Thanks Jim!

  7. Thank you, Jim! It has been typical Houston weather. Cold, a couple of weeks of a out perfect weather, and then hot. It has been upper 80's here the past few days. The cold shave felt good.
  8. Nice one Jim! I never have seen Eskimo Tuxedo before.

  11. I tried a simple refresh with chromium oxide, it just didn't feel smooth. To blunt the razor I just lightly drag the edge across the side of my natural stone. I don't do this every time but when I just can't get a smooth edge, blunting so I know the edge is fresh steel, seems to help.

I start with a 3000. Thats the lowest I have so it can take a while after blunting.

I use a 20x jeweler's loupe and I keep going until the scratchs are even and extend across the length of the bevel. Then I go to an 8000 grit stone and again hone until the stone marks are even and constant across the bevel.

My final stone is a natural stone which claimeds to be netween 12000 and 15000. I hone under a stream of water waiting for the blade stick to the stone.

Then I go to chromium oxide on a leather strop for 20 strokes. I just set the strop on the table and if it moves as I stroke I know I am using too much pressure.

Lately I have finished with 10 to 20 passes on .3 micron lapping film followed by 25 strokes on canvas and 50 strokes on a leather strop. This takes about 45 min to an hour but the edge clips the hair off my arm with just a hovering pass. Seems to work well.
  12. thank you Tim..was an excellent shave..avatars can match a shave too..;)..

  13. Thanks, Tim! I do really enjoy the people here, yourself included. Stay healthy and safe. We’ve been staying in the suburban house. Philadelphia has over 4000 cases of Covad19. There are over 16,500 statewide. A guy in our condo died of it.

  20. That is actually quite helpful. My chin resists the 2nd (XTG/ATG) pass. But then again, it resists the 1st (WTG) pass as well--blasted chin! :angry021:
