April 10th RR Gamechanger Jaws .68 w Astra SP APShaveCo Mixed/Sapele&Resin Shannon’s Soaps Haymarket Thayers Fine Fresh Vetiver AS Late afternoon shave today. Took advantage of some nice weather to get some work done outside in the yard and shaved before a late supper. I’ve worked through a few samples lately, and this Shannon’s sample was up today. Nice lather, nice scent but nothing overly memorable for me. Had 2 easy passes with the excellent Gamechanger. This really is a good razor and I’m happy it came with the Halo handle. I wouldn’t have picked this one on my own. The Fresh Vetiver should probably be pulled a little more often, too. Have a great day all.
Arko Adjustable April April 10 Razor - QShave - Merkur Futur Clone (6) Blade - Soap - Arko Brush - @Jayaruh #312 Post - Alum We made it through another "work" week!! For those still working or calling sitting at home on a video conference work at least. Pretty nice day in STL today and I was ready to get my shave on tonight. Going to move over to the biggest badboy in my den for adjustables, the QShave. This is a clone of the Merkur Futur and is a fine razor at a really excellent price. The blade gaps are huge on this thing. At "1", you're already at a bigger gap than a Gillette on a "9". This one only goes to "6", and that's where I set it. Anyone surprised? Added a fresh Sharp Star and was ready to go. I chose the JR312 tonight, the faux horse knot, and whipped up a fine Arko lather. After two passes I only needed some minor neck touchup to bring the baby on board and I managed to do it all without slicing and dicing anything. Fine shave with a big, heavy, and rather aggressive razor. Hard to beat it! Hope you have plans for some fun this weekend, even if it is 6 feet away from everybody. Have a great Saturday!!
Very cool, you can see the skyline in the brush handle. I like Vault Boy even if he is an attention hound.
Saturday Shave: I wish I hadn't been so late to the party, The Druken Goat works great for me. Very wet, very slick lather that flies and drips all over the place. The Robert Williams Purist razor used to bite me with regularity but it has been kind recently. It takes a very sharp edge but the point and heel are... well.... pointy. No blood today, just an epic shave. PS: If anyone has The Druken Goat and wants to trade or sell, please PM me.
Thank you, Jason! After years of using Nivea, it took me some time to get used to Stirling's balms, but for me they've really made a difference
House is quiet and the family is asleep, no better time to have a relaxing midnight shave than at midnight. Day number 7?? (gotta double check) shave number 3 and it was glorious! 3 passes and not a single knick. I've gotta say I'm understanding how important this is, instead of focusing on what razor, blade, brush combo to try next I'm focusing on what's most important, the shave!!
Beautiful photo and awesome set up and report, Jason. For years I scratched my head and asked, "What the heck is vetiver?" I'd probably still be asking if Perry @PLAla hadn't PIF'd me a tub of Soap Commander's Drive (leather and vetiver). I can see it being an acquired taste for some, but it is definitely a taste that I have acquired
Awesome shave Jason! Love the bowl and brush as usual. Yard work sounds alot more appealing when you've been locked inside for a month. Good work!
Fantastic line up and shave, Neal! My sons have q-shaves and love them, but theirs are pretty mild (at the 1 setting I couldn't hardly get the razors to shave hair). There is a unique feature to q-shaves that is probably an accident, but if you put your fingers under the cap, pull the cap upwards and twist, you can increase or decrease the blade setting an entire rotation. Either my boys' q-shaves have been dialed down a rotation, or yours is dialed up. Either way, the settings seem to suit both of your needs just fine
Awesome photo, Keith--I love the look of that kamisori (although I can definitely see how it would be a very bite-y razor) and that brush handle is gorgeous! After an endorsement like that, I don't envision many people letting go of their Drunken Goat
Still wiping away tears! Balms. For the love of all that is holy, balms! Evidently my phone does not recognize 'balms' as a legitimate word--thank you, auto-correct.
I could have taken that in a few different directions, but you are too nice of a guy, Tim. A few others on here, though, I’d still be teasing them. That one you may consider going back and editing...
