Well here we are at the end of the week. Tonight's shave was the closest shave I have gotten this week. Very relaxing.
Completed a huge accomplishment, lol finally went an entire work week/school week of shaving everyday and not cutting my face or irritating my skin.
It was a Bay Rum Friday for me of course. Stirling Bay Rum shave soap, 56 Gillette BlueTip, Astra SP blade, finished of the shave with some Pinaud clubman bay rum after shave and tightened up them pores with Thayers Rose water witch hazel. Hope everyone had a great week!

Awesome report and set up, Myles--congratulations on the progress! Being able to withstand daily shaving is a great goal that gives you options. You might not have to or even want to, but it's nice to know you can.

Time to pull out another Soviet adjustable. The "Ideal" comes out for a turn in April and I put in a fresh Voskhod. Might as well keep the flagship blade in the Russians. The Ideal is similar to the Consul, although it is more of a rip off of the Super Adjustable from Gillette than the Slim. Different head geometry and not as well made as the Consul, this razor has a bit of wobble and wonk to it, but nothing terrible like many other Russian razors. Gaps seem similar to the Consul, so more aggressive than Gillette. It's the head geometry that makes this one a bit of a handful as it will bite you more often than the Consul. One of my blade suppliers swore up and down it's the same razor as the Consul, just made in two different factories. While I can't prove he's right or wrong, I have trouble believing it's the same blueprint and design and they could make it so differently. This is Russian engineering from the past, though, so anything is possible.

I went back to Arko to keep going with that for April and chose the JR54 for the lather. Obviously no issues with either. The shave wasn't bad but, as I've mentioned, was a bit different than the Consul. A bit of roughness, though nothing over the top. Roughness may be too strong a word. How about - it just doesn't feel quite smooth. There, that does it. However, after three passes I do have the baby on board but I also have a hint of fire from the alum on my neck. We'll work on that in the next couple of days.

Couldn't remember the last edge maintenance on the Barbers Bride, so I went for the 1/10 micron cubic boron nitride pasted nanocloth, blue denim, an roo. All magnetic mounts from CKTG. Shaved good.

I gotta stop using this brush on unobtainium soaps. I love the results, but it'll pound through the soap.

Start day work next week. Seems they want to take everyones temperature at entry. They did spot reads at workstations this week (I was 95 another guy was read at 85). Probably got their pyrometers 'on the cheap'.
Knee-jerk panic moves for an outfit that hasn't bothered in sensible hygienic practices for disease prevention.

Anyhow folks... Shave on!

Early morning shave, late post.

Hadn't used the Supply Co razor in quite some time, wanted to give it a little love. Continuing on the tobacco vanilla kick this week, Stirling Haverford. Very nice tobacco vanilla fragrance, much like PAA's Cavendish, but just a touch more ginger and/or clove I think. The after shave is very long lasting for me, still catching whiffs of it 7 hours later......or maybe it's cause I over apply after shaves and colognes, as I'm almost always self imposed 'social distancing'.

Very nice Stirling lather from my favorite synthetic brush. Slick and thick, needs a bit longer whipping and extra hydration (in my world) to reach peaky luscious yogurty goodness. Shaving with the Supply Co loaded with a Schick Proline blade, about as simple as it can get. The flat of the razor face almost dictates 'riding the cap', and a super sharp Proline just knocks any growth out of the way. But....too much pressure or miss the angle (as with any safety)....irritation city. WTG/XTG, then some very light neck buffing for a fantastic DFS+ shave this morning.

I’m not, Clint! I've never liked light razors. The only ones that do seem to work for me are my Gibbs Adjustables and Shake Sharps, both of which rely on som type of blade modification.

At less than 20 over the fine shouldn't be too bad here. At least they didn't get me on the beltway for 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. With the CV19 lack of traffic everyone is driving very fast. Guess that is what happens when we sit in bumper to bumper traffic all the time.

good morning gents,loaded a new nacet into the newly acquired french tech.lovely razor with a solid thin handle,unlike the hollow thin handles the brits used.beautiful balance and very nimble.it is a touch milder than the flat bottom tech due to it's u.s post war head design,but has very positive blade clamping properties.uses the same clamping technology as the new short comb.very smooth shaver.
the opal built a fabulous apricot lather,and a near bbs was achieved with my usual procedure,with a little extra pick ups /buffing.i like/am used to the flat bottom more than the post war versions,but would get more proficient with more use .i have never seen this set before anywhere,so i am glad to be it's new caretaker.a tech in a shiny case..only in france it seems..

2020 Shavette Focus Shave # 28

A late morning three-passer on three days of growth, and I'm near BBS all over. I'm pleased with the smoothness on my chin, around my mouth, and my upper lip. A few red dots (mostly visible at 10X) and another spot on my neck appeared. All the boos boos were due to operator error and the addition of a mostly unnecessary third pass.

All things considered, I'm pleased with how the shave turned out. Hope you all are having a fantastic Friday!

Is yours a Colgate tube? I got a Colgate shave stick tube from Fuzzy a few years ago. I keep Palmolive in it, too, as it is my only ongoing stick. The fact that Palmolive and Colgate are the same company is a nice touch as well, I guess.

The Arko moved out and the Palmolive moved into the tube . The tube is an L.T Piver from Paris. When I searched it online it is dated in the 1920s.

The Shave...
Favorite Friday. I love being smooth. I love seeing how far I can push things. But I also love not feeling irritation--what to do? Here’s what I came up with: (a) three passes, (b) no, or at least very few, repeat strokes, and (c) try to get the shave finished in half an hour. Now I know you aren’t supposed to rush shaves, but my reasoning was it reinforces my focus on only putting steel on parts that have lather on them (which in turn) is a fantastic way to cut shave time. Here’s how it went down:

1st pass (WTG). Kept it quick, confident, and kept steel on lather only. For me, working the chin on the 1st pass takes short, strong strokes. Not quite buffing, but it does look somewhat similar. This is where I am most in danger of repeating stokes. I did pretty well, though.

2nd pass is an exact repeat of the 1st, but I decided to take the blade at a slightly more aggressive angle. It worked fairly well, and if I had quit there I’d have a CCS (excepting the chin).

3rd pass was the XTG/ATG hybrid. Rather than focusing entirely on the direction my hair grows, I focus instead on which action is easiest to perform with the shavette. I knew I was pushing the 30 minute mark here, so rather than going faster, I dropped touch ups and buffing (I spend a lot of time with those two things).

Results: DFS (CCS on the chin, though), no irritation, and about 35 minutes. Not quite the ideal I was shooting for, but still I’m still pretty pleased with the results
