  1. Yeah, right about the time I started thinking muscle memory of stropping was taking over, ruined a strop.

I think Bill went through a couple of Gold Dollar straight exercises....one was good, the other needed some help (twist in the grind?), IIRC.

WSP sells some GDs inspected & shave ready honed. Very reasonable $.

  3. At least this year she was not working and I had some help. Frustrating doing so much by oneself. We did alot of levelling and raking before we seed some areas . Along back fence the alder bushes grow through the chainlink and those suckers grow fast. Going to eliminate them and weave a couple vines I found growing around them in through the fence. Will look more natural than steel fence and appealing to the eye .

  4. Thanks, Charlie! That Slim shaves incredibly smooth at 9 :D

Things have been a bit crazy at home the last week or so, but things are slowing down a bit now--thank goodness. Hope things continue to go well for you and Kathy :)
  5. I might need to discipline myself to two passes. I'm still going to play with the angle as I feel riding the bar is too steep. Plus less pressure may also be useful with this razor.

It's good to know I'm not the only one getting alum feedback!

  6. As soon as I get my films, I'll have a good edge to shave with! I have faith that I'll be able to do it!

I've got a vintage Geo Wostemholme that I was given a while back. It takes a good edge, but is a little worn... That's what I'll be working on!

  9. Thanks Blair! I am familiar that he posts on both Fleabay and Betsy. I am not ready to commit because I have enough straights, but I do like to browse the different sites. I agree that he has some inexpensive kamis.
  10. Nice set up Patrick! :D

And a great report--sorry to hear to hear about the weeper, though.

  11. Thank you, Jason! Don't know why it works do much better for me than other methods--I plan on getting equally good with the bowl and the face, though :D

  12. Awesome focus on brushes this week, Keith! I always look forward to your Monday shaves because that's when the Joris comes out--fantastic looking razor and epic shaver :D

  13. I actually do move everything to a bowl once I've got the lather where I want it. With a DE I might forego the bowl, but with a shavette, I switch hands--can't have them soapy ;)

Crud! I should have hopped on the travelling box when the thread started, but I was already trying to get 7 razors and a couple of soaps out of my den. ;)

  18. Patrick has the Gold Dollar now. It looked bad, but wound up consistent enough in geometry to hone up well.

The ZY was another matter. It looked good just eyeballing it, but has a significant warp to the blade. Turned out to be a good trainer for a convexed stone.

If I was starting out, I would would source from @Slash McCoy. He is offering to provide low cost shave ready GD's and strops that will give people a great start.

  19. My Arko soap is needing replacement, so I'm looking for a good shaving soap/cream before it fully runs out.

Same for my Trumper Sandalwood skin food.

    Any recommendations?

I'm in the UK, so it would need to be available here.

    Good morning!

Wonderful shave to start the day! Three passes for near BBS. Warmer than usual alum.

I'm doing better with the Hawk. It's just taking me some time to get it dialed in.

@Primotenore inspired the use of Winter Reserve. What an intoxicating scent.

    Have a great day!
