April Focus Vintage Williams~~Rubberset 400/3~~1947 Gillette Super-Speed/Personna 74~~SBST While the Williams soap quantity is definitely decreasing and even using my most aggressive loading brush, there remains no sign of the eagerly-anticipated doughnut hole. May will certainly start out with Williams soap. I honestly believe Gillette hit their peak in 1947 with this Super-Speed. The gap is excellent; the knurling is extra-grippy; the head-size is not too tall. Goldilocks would have chosen this razor. Factor in the Personna 74 razor blade and what you now have is an award-winning combination. Best actor and best supporting actor. Because of the way my facial hair grows, the XTG pass can be the most challenging. What starts out as XTG, quickly becomes an ATG pass. Newbie wet-shavers would be well-advised to intimately know in what directions their facial hair grows. Derby City Chop Shop's Small Batch Shave Tonic (that's a ridiculously, long name) completed the shave, leaving my skin wonderfully nourished and smelling great.
awesome shave and pic Joseph.i have an x-3 and a z-3 version of these superspeeds.the x-3 has a slimmer head than the z-3..interesting..
Excellent shave and post Maestro! As I was reading your post, I was listening to Luigi Boccherini's famous string quintet piece!
Wonderful photo and report, Joseph! That Super-Speed is a gorgeous razor--love the knurling on it; extra grippy, yes, but it also looks so splendidly solid!
Hello sir, I took some time off tbh. Things got busy and we'll, I had to save my time for other things. Hope I find you well! Alas, after a particularly bad nick with the pain stick, it's gone back in its box until I truly have the time to properly focus on it. It's not forgotten though
1952 & 1954, correct? Notched center bars. Good razors, too. Thank you, Joe. You have excellent taste in music. Thanks, Jeff. Not sure how many shaves so far. I have long-since given up counting. I will shave with a blade until the very first sign of tugging and "buh-bye". If I had to guess, I would say 7-8. Thank you, Tim.
April 27 Shavette Shave #52 Gear Razor: Max Headroom Focus R21 Shavette Blade: Derby Premium (1) Brush: Stirling Finest Badger Soap: Stirling Iced Pineapple (4 Frost Drops--Menthol Monday, baby!) Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops AS: Pinaud Citrus Musk & Aqua Velva Ice Blue (2 Frost Drops--Menthol Monday, baby!). I wanted to drown myself in AS goodness, but drowning levels of Citrus Musk is too powerful, even for me. Diluting AS with water seems to keep my skin from absorbing either, and I was afeared to us rubbing alcohol. The solution? Water it down with AV at about one part CM to 4 or 5 parts AV. The two scents blend together nicely, and the CM still dominates. Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented The Shave... I decided to step up my shavette game with a 3 pass shave (WTG, WTG/XTG, ATG). It was a surprisingly bloody shave. 4 or 5 weepers, and considering the string of bloodless shaves I’d been enjoying, I was tempted to blame it on the new blade, but then I remembered that I am me--most likely a case of mea culpa... again! Honestly, the weepers were all superficial, and none needed the styptic. The amazing thing is that I am somewhere between BBS and DFS (probably closer to DFS)--even the chin. I did get heavy handed on the last pass, so there is some slight irritation on the chin. Overall, I’m quite pleased with how the shave went down and will probably try another 3-passer on Wednesday, but remember to “Pressure Drop” Hope you all are starting your week off right--be safe! 52 down, 48 to go!
No I have not posted yet today. Early morning shave and out the door. It has been a Monday all day long. I will post shortly.
April 27, 2020 OneBlade Genesis Feather FHS Mr EE #4 with Maggard SHD Rocky Mountain Barber Company Fine Santal Absolut Whew it has certainly been a Monday. A very early morning shave with a late afternoon post. Everything worked well together today. Three passes and touch ups caught the little guy. I am just whipped today. I hope everyone had a great Monday.
I am well despite living in the epicenter of this pandemic in NY. Jon, it's good that you are busy and that you are well. I can't speak for everyone, but you are missed here. Hopefully, you can become somewhat of regular contributor on the 30DC. Stay well!
Thanks, Clint! Unscented witch hazel is an awesome idea. Next time I hit CVS or Walmart, I'll have to grab a bottle... thanks again Btw, I'm hoping the rest of your weekdays won't be Mondays as well... things have to slow down, right?
