Sorry to hear that, Myles. I hope the cuts were minor. A crazy shave like that happens to us all. Here are a few of my learning experiences: I had the silo doors on a vintage Gillette creep open during a shave. It went downhill from there. I now check the doors frequently. I was stretching my skin on an ATG pass, and the blade edge (Feather blade) inadvertently caught the thumbnail of my off-hand. The edge was damaged, and it left some pin stripes on my cheek before I realized what happened. I learned that it's a good idea to swap out a blade midway through a shave if something ain't right. One time I loaded a Feather Artist Club (SE) blade in my Mongoose and didn't align it properly. That shave got kinda crazy too. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn.
Tim-Very interesting question. The 7/8 half hollow is a French point and lighter. I get phenomenal shaves with both. I think o like the feel of the heavier blade. I have a variety of straights ranging from 5/8’s to 7/8’s. I do like the weight and feel of the bigger blade. That being said, my 5/8’s Wade Butcher French Point does deliver one hell of a shave. My next custom, I am sure there will be one in my future, probably will be an 8/8. Have not decided on the grind. My wife thinks I have an addiction and my stuff needs to go on birth control. . Could be worse.
Love the Red Ring, Jeff. Very cool. What are your thoughts on the Royall Lime? I’ve heard it said that it is reformulated now.
Just awesome, Evan. I'm following your straight razor project with great interest. When @NCoxSTL was a pup, though, he'd shave with the aluminum blade. It would probably out shave those Flying Critter blades he uses sometimes.
Thank you Charlie! This was an EBay purchase at the start of my young straight razor journey. I bought it shave ready, but now the edge is much better than when I first shaved with it over a year ago.
Triple Mint Freshness is just a fancy way of saying menthol. As @Primotenore always says, why use a nickel word when a fifty-cent one will do?
