”May 7--In the Mix-it-Up-of-Mystery May”
(Yeah, you read that right!)
Shavette Shave #61
Gear
- Razor: Max Headroom Focus R21 Shavette
- Blade: Gillette Super Thin (1)--it’s got a picture of what I’m assuming is Gillette on the front. Frankly, the picture looks (and the blade shaves) like Stalin.

- Brush: Stirling Finest Badger--again, this brush will not share.
- Soap: Pleistocene Texas on Fire (6 Frost Drops and whipped and chilled with ice water)
- Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops
- AS: Avon Wild Country & Pinaud Citrus Musk--my Mix-It-Up choice was the two most potent AS I own. How’d it go down? It beds down surprisingly well!
- Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented

The Shave
The badger whipped up a good amount of smokey, chilly lather, but hangs on to it all! I squeezed a lot out after my shave, and all I could think was, “Why was it so hard to get any of this onto my face?” It’s definitely got a one-for-you-and-two-for-me attitude. I don’t know what to do about that other than double the amount of soap I’m using. I’ll try that tomorrow.
This was a 3 pass shave… at least until i started shaving. Just a tuggy, horrible experience. I don’t have a lot of blade experience, but all the Gillette blades I’ve ever used have been wonderful. The Super Thin was not. I put the shavette down after the 1st pass (WTG), unloaded it, and then reloaded it just in case I screwed up the process somehow--it is not beyond the scope of possibility. Then I started pass #2
It didn’t go much better.
I got halfway through the 3rd pass before I hung it all up. When something doesn’t cut like it’s supposed to (no matter what it is), I apply pressure until it does--I was getting to that point, and it never turns out well in shaving. DFS/CCS at best, and a bit of irritation to go with it. Still, better results than the shave felt; for that I am thankful
Hope your Thursday is the perfect precursor for Friday!
