May 8th Fat Friday Razor: Valet Autostrop Blade: Feather FHS (8) Brush: JTSpartan wood/resin with Hybrid Knot PS: Proraso Red SS: MWF AS: Proraso Red Shave #8 on this blade was also no big deal. I did switch to my second autostrop. This is a later model but the plating has been stripped off. Anyway, I started with five passes down and back on the strop. Then I inspected the end to see if the bevel was shiny. It was. The MWF was nice and creamy so I went to work. The first pass, WTG I could tell the blade was plenty sharp. Still only doing two-pass shaves with the second pass being a mix of XTG and ATG depending on the area on my face. I just double-checked the results. My face is smooth WTG and XTG with a little roughness in places ATG. That sounds like a DFS to me. At eight shaves down, I do think stropping is helping to maintain the edge. But I still have a long way to go. Yesterday was an easy day on the homemade razor. I cut the jimps, but decided not to engrave these ones. If/When I do another pair I will engrave them before I do the profile cuts. My forge has arrived so if all goes well, I will heat treat and temper tomorrow. Then I'll make jigs to support the blades during the grinding process. Grinding is unknown territory for me. Really trying not to screw this up right before the finish line.
Thank you Joseph...as I said, I'd like to see this one take me through the summer, but if I finish it beforehand, I have another similar soap in mind(not from Razorock).
Thank you Tim....it's nice to rate'em like that. And yes, Mt. Everest isn't going anywhere, it will always be "there".
Thank you Joe. It’s all good despite the computer issues that made the morning much longer than necessary. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
