Thank you Jason! Max Sprecher has a great reputation as a straight razor artisan. I normally would not pay his prices, but because I am getting unemployment insurance that is coupled with the pandemic unemployment assistance program makes it financially possible for me to do so. 65 is a milestone for me so why not treat myself to something nice to mark it. I probably will not have until it later in the year.
Wow! 10/8 she is going to be big one. Congratulations, sometimes we need to treat our selves and it is for a milestone. I don’t own one but his work looks like art and his reputation is excellent. I am excited for you and can’t wait to see it.
Thanks Keith! I always have said you inspired me to go larger than 5/8. I would never have thought that I would have an equal or larger blade width as you. As you know, custom razors take awhile to be made, but that's ok by me.
Thank you Jim! The scales that I picked are very decorative and I always wanted a barber's notch razor.
Congrats Joe. Way to go treating yourself on such a milestone. I am excited and happy for you. Can't wait to see it in your photos.
The widest I have is 9/8. I actually find big blades easier to shave with and control. This is most exciting, it takes time but you get exactly what you want.
TGIF and the big full hollow razors parade continues. Today's razor is a Friodur 14 a full 8/8 razor and it is also longer than a regular straight razor. I am not fond of the extra length length but this dog can hunt. The edge lives up to the reputation, she takes and hold fantastic edges. Despite being a big full hollow there is no flex either. I am almost to the end of the tub of B&M so I am focusing on finishing it off. An excellent shave to kick off the day. Tonight I am going out with some new friends for dinner, some adult beverages and cigars.
Thank you, Bill. To say that my Bride is an incredible blessing would be a huge understatement. I will pass on your compliments about her hair styling skills. Six more haircuts, and I break even on my equipment. She picked out the disco ball, BTW. What am I talking about? She picked out everything in our house, and she doesn't like flamed cars , either. As @jgreenepa wisely says, it is far better to be married than right.
With 18 months straight shaving experience and one blade at 15/16, I don't think that I will have a problem with it after a number of shaves with it. The only problem that I may have would be the under the nose scoop maneuver. If I can't do it, then I will just go across left to right and then right to left.
Thank you Clint! It will be months before it will be in my hand, but I feel very good about it. I realize that it is important to have at least one premier star in ever shave category. I have been fortunate to have a real nice straight razor collection, and this order just puts the cherry on top.
