It's weird how that works. It wasn't until I started to settle with a 2+ pass, DFS that I discovered that I could get a 3 pass, BBS shave without irritation. The process took me about 3 months, but I had 25 years of deeply ingrained poor shaving habits to overcome. Learning how to shave with a shavette helped me significantly with that process as well. :D

Thanks guys! This was the hot rolled steel blank that stalled my mill and forced me to repack the spindle bearings. I made some crude milling cuts on my lathe to make a decent practice piece.

When I heat treated it I rolled it over on its side to see what color it was and it warped. I tempered it and bent it as close to straight as I could.

Knowing I would learn a few hard lessons while grinding I figured I would do my best with this. Several of its issues are due to experiments that didn't go well and the fact that it wasn't straight so I had to eyeball it to compensate instead of just letting the machine do it's thing.

It served its purpose and gave me hope fhat I can improve the process on the other blanks.

Again thanks for making this fun for me. Creating is a joy, but sharing creations adds a whole new level to the enjoyment.

Beautiful shaves over the last two weeks, i used exactly the same setup over and over again, so that's why i haven't posted recently. Fantastic winter set-up, the prep is my standard go to winter balm, i cant use my normal aftershaves in winter because it dries out my skin too much.

Finally binned the derby extra after its 15th shave, ive now switched out the Jagen david for my first razor, the lion DE.

    Razor: Jagen David E01
    Blade: derby extra (10,11,12,13,14,15)
    Brush: omega 49
    Soap: arko shave stick
    Aftershave balm: prep[IMG]

CFG Ghost Town Barber~~Simpson Emperor 3~~DE-Vette/Sharp Star
The Ides of May and I am still zeroing in on what works and what doesn't with the DE-Vette.
Could a blade change make a huge difference?
Shouldn't the G.O.A.T. blade have been the answer?
Loaded up a Sharp Star and proceeded to find out...
Let's start with the lather. For kicks I tried out a method someone posted somewhere...
Fill the tub with water and shake. Then take the "loosened" soap and apply it to the brush...
Well, let's just say that method didn't work for me.
Loaded the Emperor normally and got a fantastic lather from the CF.
So how was the shave using the Sharp Star?
Well, darn good, I must say. Smoother than the Light Brigade
I continue to fine-tune the "angle" and i get me best results riding the cap as much as possible,
    without
setting the cap against my skin.
Two passes and no irritation, no weepers and no blood.
The CF aftershave afforded me a nice bracing affect and as I anticipated,
received the coveted and copyrighted SWMBOSOA©
