Continued to ‘mix it up’ by pulling out another neglected blade from the den. When I first started with a safety razor, I got a 50 blade sampler from Fendrihan. 10 each of Feather, Astra SP, Voskhod, Derby Extra and these Merkurs. Loved the Astras right away (bought my first 100 soon afterwards), liked the Voskhods (also bought a 100 of those, still have 50), didn’t try the Feathers for a year out of fear (much ado about nothing, great blades), was ‘meh’ on the Derby and detested these Merkurs. Found them nigh unusable. There were 8 in the pack, so I guess I tried 2 in 2016 and haven’t touched them since.
Loaded up a great lather and went to town on a weekend 2 pass’er. With so many things in wetshaving, things we thought as a newbie just don’t stand the tests of time and technique. This isn’t really one of those times pers se. Are these good blades? Nope. Are they usable? Yes. They managed to make a blade that is sharp and tuggy at the same time. For me, they are about the same level as some of the low end Rapiras (hope I don’t upset the Czar). Ironically, these are ridiculously expensive as well. Yeesh.
Results were fine, but then again they always are. Finishing with the Autumn Glory was a good idea, as always.
Have a great day all!
