Proraso SS and AS I just couldn't resist using this beautiful razor that I received today. The CMon brush and the Proraso produced a wonderful wet lather. My goal today was to get make this maiden shave enjoyable and to get a good feel for this razor. I have never shaved with a razor this big so I made sure that my touch was light. I wasn't looking for a BBS shave. I just wanted to make sure that I don't bleed and don't get any irritation. I passed the goals with flying colors. 2.5 passes with some touchups gave me an IBBS+ shave. This razor is very smooth. I just have to get a better angle to get maximum efficiency. I am sure I will find it. Obviously, this razor shouldn't be used by a new straight shaver. Well, I finally made it to the major leagues in straight razor shaving. I definitely hit it out of the park today and can play with the big boys. Lol! Wow! The last 2 days was very important in my journey in straight shaving. Setting a bevel on a razor and shaving with a blade bigger than 1 inch for the very first time. Anyway, I finished this shave with a liberal amount of Proraso Green aftershave. Have a great day guys! Leading off, WTF Vintage Barbershop. I thoroughly enjoy this soap. It is a soft soap, probably considered by some as a crisp. A small pea sized sample removed from the tub yields massive amounts of lather. I had enough for the usual three three passes plus a fourth lathering of the face and neck for
sh%#*ts and giggles.(final rehydration). I easily would have been able to get a two pass head shave if I felt adventurous.

The Drew Dick razor, one of two that I am fortunate to have, did an amazing job. It delivered a super comfortable shave. The more I use this blade the better I like it when compared with the other Dick. Both are excellent shaver. Today’s razor, a quarter hollow, has more weight. It just feels great in the hand.

The scent of the soap and splash is relatively long lasting. Almost five hours post shave, I am continuing to get subtle whiffs as a I move about my day. The glacial balm round out this shave nicely. Smelling good, face feeling good and extremely happy with the whole process today. Hopefully a “twin” copy tomorrow.

Thank you Jim! I know that I wasn't planning on getting a custom razor, let alone a Max Sprecher, but I am glad that I got it. This razor is so perfectly balanced that it is really easy to maneuver.

In for June! Will be doing one or two 'Just the Basics' shaves a week, and then rotating all the other fun gear for remaining shaves.

Today's 'Just the Basics' shave....also qualifies for Joe's @Trigger 'budget' shave. The LA Shaving Soap Company AS, the restored Ever Ready 100 with a flat top synthetic, and the Gillette Single Ring were all part of a TSD 'Traveling Box' acquisition, which carries a participation price of $19.95 for postage. The LaToja shave stick, completely enabled by @clint64, was an add on purchase from Maggard's for $5.00. Blade in use today, a Bolzano SuperInox on it's 3rd use, was a whopping $0.18.

Everything worked beautifully, scrubbed the LaToja shave stick over 48 hours of growth, face lathered with the damp ER100 to nice slick goodness, albeit not quite the volume of cushion I usually get with artisan soaps. Need to work on that.... The Gillette Single Ring loaded with the Bolzano, 2 passes to a great DFS+. No shenanigans to report. Finished with a hefty application of the LASSC 'Topanga Fougère' after shave, a very earthy fougère, but with a subtle floral component that makes it keeper.

The Shave
Last week of school, and I’m actually going to school in order to work--crazy concept. No kids, still, and the faculty meetings we attend will still all be via zoom, but we’ll be grading work in our rooms and preparing everything for summer. This means a week of 5:00 am shaves; I am not my best at 5:00 am.

I didn’t want to do anything too drastic today, so my pre-shave briefing was this:

No touch ups

No chasing

3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG)

No touch ups

No chasing

For most people this may seem redundant, but I need to tell myself things twice if there's even going to be a chance at me of me following through with it. And today it worked. No issues except on the 2nd pass where I tried to truly go XTG on a part of my chin that I usually do a hybrid of XTG/WTG--it’s hard to get my face perfectly flat there, and I caught myself with an exposed corner of the Utopia Care shavette that the Focus R21 does not have. Definitely qualified under Paul's @Paul Turner definition of a cut, but by the rinse it disappeared, and now I can’t even see where it happened. Weird.

Solidly in between BBS and DFS and no irritation--winner!

For this month's focus, I'll focus on 'basic' vintage razors. I'll define basic as those that were cheap and meant for the masses at the time. I assumed this Old Type would fall under than category, but apparently I was wrong. Looked up some advertisements on the Mr Razor site last night after taking this pic and was shocked at the price of these razors back in the day. $5 for a cased ball end OT in 1920! For reference, a NEW Red and Black set was 79 cents in the 30', a plated Tech was 79 cents in the 40s (as was a Micromatic) and an Adjustable was $1.95 in the 50s. Bostonians and New Deluxes in gold were both $5. Looks like my Basics focus will have to include Techs, NEW LC or SC, GEMs and Injectors. Still a fine month.
Today's shave with my 'apparently quite expensive for the day' Old Type was excellent. Hammered away at the bloomed Cool, was rewarded with a great lather, went with the blade that was already in the razor and had 3 easy passes.
I am quite smooth, smelling great and looking forward to a few basic razors this month.
Basic software? Well, I'll pull my Palmolive and Proraso out a few times, but that will be about it.

good morning gents.simple basic shave today with old faithful.its a well worn new rfb/brit made for french export.french tech hollow and thinner cap than the brit only version.this oc is my favorite razor and gives consistently fantastic shaves. loaded with a 7 oclock blue for the first time.good load of klar sport soap and face lathered,perfect.love these omega boars..2+ smooth passes for a bbs..nivea blue to finish.awesomely fabulous shave..will definitely do this combo again.hope everyone is well,happy june 1st..

I decided to kick off June by continuing my experiment with the use of a modified AC Feather Super blade in my SS Supply V2. My shave buddy from down under, Russell, was curious as to how many shaves I could achieve with this modified blade. Well, the answer is three and a half, at least with this blade. The problem for me is that working with modified Feather Super blades and Parkinson’s don’t play well together. The blade is too wide to be reloaded into a keyed injector blade magazine. Loading the blade manually was a pain in the petoot. It took a great deal of fumbling during which I accidentally sliced the index finger on my non-dominant hand. Russell routinely gets up to half a dozen shaves, but I don’t believe he’s a head shaver.

I began my shave this morning, after my regular cold water rinse, on the right side of my face. The blade began to tug at the very end of the first WTG pass. Having traveled this road with my AC razors, I injected a new Schick B-20 Proline from an empty keyed Schick magazine I recently reloaded and continued the shave. It was as Safe and effortless As loading an injector blade is supposed to be. Proline blades were my blade of choice for my AC razor before discovering Feather Super blades which are a bit sharper, but much cheaper than Prolines. So I’ll conclude that Feather Supers are my preferred blade for my three AC razors, but I’ll be sticking with Prolines for my injector razors.

The fifth consecutive shave with the SS Supply V2 this morning was every bit as good as the preceding four shaves. I’ll probably stick with Prolines with this razor as the closeness difference isn’t noticeable. The brush for today was the Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute fitted with the new 26mm Boar knot ferrule. I returned to the wonderful Nancy Boy Signature Shave cream enhanced with 6 drops Of M-Bomb which I’ll shave with for the rest of this month. The post shave skin feel is awesome. Two passes (WTG, ATG) left me feeling velveteen smooth, clean, cool and refreshed.

PREP: Cold water rinse

Now that I am officially on Medicare, I have the right to choose whatever gear that suits me. In April, I used vintage razors, last month I used more contemporary razors so this month I will use razors in both caregories. I will be using Proraso and Cryogen on a steadiier basis because the weather will be warmer. I will do Menthol Mondays, and another day or two of menthol shaves.

Thanks, Jason! It was three days ago when I manually loaded the Supply. It’s practically healed. I like my Prolines and will be sticking with them on ALL my injectors.
