Great shave yesterday with my century old NOS Le Coq Display Queen. Since I was in the mood for another great shave, I grabbed my Cooper Monobilt fliptop razor. Our @jmudrick puts the release around 1934 given patent information. The razor can be shaved in two configurations. See the photo courtesy of @jmudrick. Totally tightened down, the shave is extremely mild and somewhat inefficient - top shot. However, when loosened up, the resulting shave is quite efficient - bottom shot.

This razor is capable of delivering extremely close shaves, particularly to the dome which is why I enjoy using it so much. In use it bellows the “buttering toast” song, one of my favorites. The problem is there aren’t a lot of them available. A long time member at TSD picked one up, but it suffered from the major failing of these razors, a bent base plate which throws the entire shave off leading to its resale shortly after acquisition. Mine, thank goodness, works just fine, and has always delivered a great shave.

After my shower and cold water rinse, it was time for a workout. The 316L SS Synth brush from Rearden Razor weighs 15.8 oz. It has great heft at almost a lb., and always makes me feel like I’m exercising in use. The enhanced Nancy Boy shave cream felt cool and wonderful on mug and noggin as it was painted on with my barbell brush. The first WTG pass sheared through the prior day’s stubble right down to the skin line leaving only my two trouble spots for further attention. A little selective buffing around the Adam’s Apple and in the slight valley at the top of the back of the dome left me with the desired VBBS. I feel clean, cool, velveteen smooth and refreshed.

    RAZOR: Cooper Monobilt
    BLADE: Sharp Star
    PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH: 316L SS Rearden Razor Synthetic
CREAM: Nancy Boy Signature enhanced w/ 6 drops M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Nancy Boy Cooling After-Shave Gel.

    Just the Basics June

    Thursday's Shave

    PAL Injecto Matic
    Personna Blade (4)
    Wild West Brushworks
    Speick Shaving Stick
    Speick Aftershave

Effortless shave today with PAL & Speick! Two passes for a DFS and no irritation.
The Speick soap face lathers so easily and although it has a slightly different scent from the aftershave, I love the scent on both (although it could last longer if I had to make a request). The PAL Injecto Matic is fairly new to me as this is only the fourth shave with it. I shouldn't have waited so long to add it to the collection. It's a fantastic shaver that has provided great results every time.

Nancy Boy SC & ASB - Signature Scent
Heritage Colletions Ever Ready 3-Step - 26mm Envy Shave 2 band badger
    Puma Special
Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements AS/C - Gondolier

Couldn't resist @jgreenepa's Nancy Boy products enabling any longer. The brand also makes Sharpologist's 2020 best shaving cream's list (under specialty distribution, a.k.a artisan brands). Considering that list includes names like Castle & Forbes, Truefitt & Hill, St. James of London, etc., and others I really like, thought I'd give it a good 'ol Texas whirl. TGN's 'Envy Shave' 2 band badger, barely loaded with a teaspoon of cream, bowl lathered into 4-5 passes of super slick & creamy shaving bliss. Will try even less next time! Lightly scented pleasant aroma, wonderful face feel, residual slickness for plenty of light blade buffing. The Puma Special made 3 super smooth and easy passes to BBS results, but.....on the first pass it found a facial blemish (that missed earlier shower face scrub inspection), and swiped it clean off. Oh well, a little alum and all was good. Followed with matching Nancy Boy signature scent after shave balm, finished with a favorite fragrance, PAA's AS/C Gondolier.

Very impressed with the Nancy Boy shave cream and after shave balm. The shave cream comes in a 6 ounce tub, mine filled ~98% full, super soft, like a tube cream. Doesn't take much at all for a super lather when hydrated ever so slightly. Their aftershave balm...very similar in consistency & texture to the Saponificio Varesino I have....light liquid/gel, vaguely milky appearance. The Signature fragrance.....a light peppermint/lavender is what I discern (although it has other essential oils added) quickly fades with my skin type, so it doesn't compete with another fragrance. Nice. Keeper? Definitely. Repurchase? Most likely....

Hope everyone has a Terrific Thursday!

Great shave, Jeff! That is such an interesting razor design. Wow, that's a huge difference in the two blade configurations.

Thanks Keith! Do they use steel for roofing there or other materials? That was some interesting facts btw.

I think I did say that but although patents were issued in '32 and '34 I actually don't find any adverts before 1937.

Great shave and report, Blair! Glad you had a good experience with the new cream. I had read that article on Sharpologist and it seems Nancy Boy is playing with the big players.
