Sweet set up and shave, Andrew! I've never seen a GEM Contour before. Is that modern or vintage Williams?
Wonderful Williams Wednesday shave, Andrew! Lovely image, Jason! Hey now! Don't shortchange me. Today is day three of my soap focus. The razor handle is comfortable although not very grippy. I swipe my fingertips across the alum before each pass. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Thanks, Tim! This is Modern Williams. The Contour was the last of the GEM razors in production and it had two versions. This one I used today was the first version and has a push button lid opener. The later version, I used earlier this month and was a flip top model similar to the Featherweight style. Both are great shavers.
I believe it's mostly a matter of preference tbh. Paddle strops, to me, feel 'more official' like honing (but in reverse). Hanging strops feel....vintage style, even if it's a brand new strop. The interesting point on your question....towards preference....several strop manufacturers offer both options. I have an Ezra Arthur bridle leather 3" strop w/linen. They also offer a paddle strop option. Tony Miller (heirloom razor strop company)....lists both options, but I think the paddle strop option is by request.
One other little tidbit....Tony Miller has some 'budget' strops, starting at $50, for a 3" wide one....that's very decent considering his reputation/quality. Amazon for a 3" wide was more (didn't do a crazy thorough search). FWIW, I sent him a couple questions Monday, heard back within hours, placed an order....and it's already shipped.
Thanks, Joe. 1) The atomizer really helps use only what's required. 2) I have two full back up bottles.
Nice photo, Jason. I have never used a Schick. Funny, I did buy one a few years ago on ebay as a secret santa present.
