    Tabacstag!
I realize I should have done this shave on Father's Day, since the brush was his - this one lovingly restored by my friend JR Reyes. I don't use it much to preserve it, and because I like bigger knots. The razor is as close as I could get to the one I remember him using all my life - a 1947-48 Aristocrat. This razor is my favorite vintage instrument because it is smooth and efficient enough to use everyday with little chance of weepers or irritation.

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Blade: Voskhod
    Brush: Reyes Restored Dad's Barbershop
    Pre-Shave: Proraso Red

    Aftershave: Tabac Original Balsam
    Additional Care:
    Tabac Deodorant

    Have some great shaves!
  4. Cut off the guards on my Russian mystery razor and gave it a shot. It felt less dangerous without the guards. I remember this razor got shelved because of how terrible it shaved. It may become one of my favorites now.

Lathered up some Route 66 lumberjack that I found at the back of my drawer with my synthetic brush, loaded up a fresh Silver Star blade ( had to keep Russia in the Russian razor) and away I go.

First pass was face WTG and neck sideways to the grain scything. No weepers, no hair, no discomfort. Second pass was ATG on the face and the opposite across the grain on the neck with scything. Still good but 2 weepers in my trouble spots. One on a mole that catches fresh blades and one on my chin where I usually wear a goatee and am out of practice. Rinsed off and gave it a feel and it's pretty good. I touched up with some water only buffing and got somewhere between the baby and military standard. A splash of Thayer's lavender to finish and the deed is done.

  14. Vegan Soap Day: (June 23, 2020)

    Brush: Declaration Jefferson B9B
    Razor: Gillette English Hybrid Tech.
    Blade: Gillette Platinum (1)
    Lather: Southern Witchcrafts - Samhain
Post Shave: Declaration Grooming - Trimegistus
Frag: Imaginary Authors - Yesterdays Haze

What a wonderful razor - first use and I am really happy with how it shaves compared to the Flat Bottom Tech. Mild razor but I don't mind this for 3 pass shaves. I generally have some skin irritation when using new blades but today was not the case.

I don't often use this particular soap, which is a shame because the soap base performs very well. I was really happy with how slick and comfortable the lather makes the shave. Really good stuff here.

Mild and very efficient razor. This razor is like a DE version of the Gem Featherweight sans the weight part.
  17. What it should have said was Honing and stropping.
the smiling blades curvature makes it a little more difficult to hone, if you haven't done many, with smiles(curved blade). Most of the time I use a light rocking motion, to make full contact with the stones, along with an x pattern.
