The Shave
I really took my time lathering today. Pressed in an almond sized bit of soap in the neon green salsa bowl, started with a
very dry brush and went at it till I had a dense, sticky paste that had not yet reached the lather stage. A bit of water, a bit more paste. A bit more water, a bit more paste. Kept doing this till the paste started to turn into a very dense lather. A bit more water, a bit more dense lather. Kept that up till I had enough lather, and at no time did it fluff up.
Applied the thick, well-hydrated lather to my face, and thought, “Let’s push ‘good enough’ and see what we get.” Dunked the tip of my brush into some water and started face lathering what was already there. The resulting lather was slicker, thinner, and no fluff--just how I like it.
An interesting side note: the menthol in the Iced Pineapple really stepped up today. My best guess is that the less fluffy the lather is, the more potent the menthol feels. Yet another argument for yogurt instead of fluff.
I decided to go super simple with 2 passes: WTG and XTG. One thing I’ve noticed about shaving with the aluminum Lupo: the adage, “Let the weight of the razor do all the work” does not apply to extremely light razors. That’s a potential problem for a pressure-fiend like me, but I got it right today. I was shooting for DFS and got that, too--perhaps even slightly better. I’ll take it.
Hope you had a happy Monday!
